Did you ever notice how there aren't that many games out that just allow you to "free roam" or "view the landscape"? Have you ever wanted to play a game where it's both simple but addicting, both challenging but at the same time... easier than you could possibly imagine?
Well my friends and my enemies, it's time for you to open your eyes to a whole new world... a place where the options are almost ENDLESS, and where the world itself... is your oyster.
Now, many of you may be wondering... "What is so great about Minecraft?"... Well, if you just view my little "summary" below, you can get a pretty good understanding why this game has become one of the MOST popular games out there... and in my opinion, it's been one of my favorite games of all time for the Xbox 360.
Graphics- Let's keep this simple ladies and gentleman, the graphics are what I would say as "blocky"... cause that's exactly what it is. Let me tell you, this game is designed around a form of retro appeal, but at the same time... it's allowing a 3D concept to take hold of that 8-bit and blocky appearance. With this game, you play as the commonly known minecraftian called "Steve"... but that's not an official name, just something they came up with for the game itself. Now, when you think about it... it looks like a pretty lame game from the box cover and possibly from what you have seen online. But even though this game may not appeal to everyone, it has indeed... become something I truly enjoy playing. The graphics are simple and designed to just bring out a common idea... that there is danger around every corner, once the night comes.
Sound- Along side the fact that the animals on the game sound almost 100% REAL, it's just amazing what they have accomplished with the soundtrack and the music of the game itself. You get sounds that would almost sound like you were reading it out of a comic book... anything varying from "zings" and "boings" to "bonks" and "booms". It's a wide arrange area of noise, and yet... you can turn off the noise and lust leave on the music. The music itself is both comforting and rather calm in my opinion, sure... it's not one of those "fast paced" and "aggressive" sort of games, but when you get a chance to play it... the world itself becomes your own personal land. Sure, online play does become a little bit "repetitive", but even then... you can access pretty much what they would call as "God Mode" and have unlimited over EVERYTHING you desired (for the most part). Now, I got off topic there... but as I was saying, the audio of this game is just amazing. It's almost as if you were listening to real life sounds... sure, you don't hear win or water splashing (at least I don't remember if you do), but you do hear the sounds of farm animals, dogs, cats, birds, and many other things. You also get a relaxing and calm soundtrack that almost should be part of a wildlife nature viewing film or something of that sort.
Addictiveness- Once you start playing this game, it's almost NEARLY impossible to stop. I mean, the options are almost endless... unless you have a short attention span, and if you did... you wouldn't have read this far into my review. Personally, what I can say is this... after having played this game for nearly... I'd save about a month (off and on because my friend is a pain in the neck)... but after playing this game, I became more and more involved with creating my own little world. It's basically a game where you can own the planet, and create your own cities... your own towns, your own house... your own shops and stores... your own caves and battlefields... you can create pretty much ANYTHING you want in this world. It may take a while to set up some situations, but almost anything is possible. You can start a farm, you can build yourself weapons and armor for fighting, you can be a lumberjack and just spend time chopping down trees... you can create houses out of stone and wood, brick and even glass. The options are endless, but many people lack the attention span to stick to one game and just play it until they have created every single thing they possibly could. And the best part is, if you have created EVERYTHING you possibly could... and then you have Xbox Live, make sure AUTOSAVE is off, and then you can invite people to join your game or make it public for others to join. Sure, they may destroy your property or troll you... but because AUTOSAVE is off, it will all go back to normal as if nothing ever happened.
Story- Because of the way this game is designed, there isn't currently any sort of storyline involved in this game.
Depth- This game is, like I have said before multiple times... almost BOUNDLESS in its own world. You can start from scratch, you can join other people (if their room is public), you can invite your friends, you can build just about anything you want. There is so many forms of land that you can visit, you can go underwater (not forever of course, cause then you would drown), and you can pretty much life your life (or your dream life) in this game. With all the added changes they have made to this game since it first came out, there are so many options and so much you can do, that there is pretty much nothing but pure excitement from seeing what is possible. You can create your own ride using minecarts and tracks to create your own roads or streets... or even create a roller-coaster if you have the patience and time to think it through. Sure, this game does have some flaws since everything is SQUARE or RECTANGULAR shaped, but in all fairness... the odds are endless. You have so much to do and so much to accomplish at the same time, you can be your own person... and if people join your game, you can just kick them out by starting it over and making it private. You can pretty much set the world how you want it to be, you can make it without enemies... or with enemies.
Difficulty- As I have said above, there is almost no end to this game... sure, there are enemies and there are things like starving to death or drowning, burning to death or anything that would normally kill someone... but at the same time, you can turn all those things off by putting it on a special mode called "Creative Mode", which is pretty much like "God Mode" for other games. It allows you to fly, never die, never get hungry, never take damage, you cannot drown, you can walk in lava and all those other things. Pretty much, with the way this game is... the difficulty only depends on how long it takes you to get used to it, and what setting of difficulty you put it on. Otherwise, for many... it's as easy as opening your eyes or breathing air.
I mean come on, if this doesn't convince you to at least try it out... I don't even know what well, but I will tell you one thing. Every time I get a chance to play this game, I will play it until my fingers fall off. |
