First of all, this is like my first post on Vizzed in yonks....and I'm supposed to be Site Staff! XD

Moving onto the issue at hand; Sonic CD (And why I don't like it)

1993, just fresh off of Sonic 2's amazing success. The Mega/SEGA CD is released, and one of SEGA'S first projects for this new CD Based system was Sonic the Hedgehog 2 extended version. What this game was supposed to be was Sonic 2 with more levels and a time travel element, but SEGA decided to scrap this idea in favour for a newer idea; Sonic CD.

Sonic CD is considered by many to be then only I repeat only decent game on the Mega CD. Why? Well, personally I'd say just because it wasn't a game like Night Trap that was focused on FMV Cutscenes and such, and it was also a brand new 2D Sonic game! But here's the thing.....

I've never really liked Sonic CD.

BLASPHEMY! You Sonic fanboys yell into my face. "HOW DARE YOU LIKE SONIC AND THE BLACK KNIGHT BUT NOT SONIC CD?!?!?!" and my answer to that is: Sonic and the Black Knight had solid level design. it wasn't bats**t crazy like in Sonic CD. Prime example:

Wacky. Freaking. Workbench. Y'know, I don't mind levels like Palmtree Panic. That level was the maximum for what i feel a 2D Sonic level should be. Not this crazy thing where you get bounced aaallll over the place and get electrocuted AND MY GOD DOES IT SUCK. I mean, did they not realize how this could potentially give someone eye strain from the camera movements? Granted, this is not an issue confined to CD but it's where I notice it the most!

Another thing I don't like is the way people argue over the two soundtracks. Okay, look. I prefer the American soundtrack. I think it feels more appropriate to Sonic CD's plot and such. If you like the other soundtrack, that's okay with me.But when people argue and go all "OOOOOH THE JAPANESE SOUNDTRACK IS BETTER/ OOOOOH THE AMERICAN SOUNDTRACK IS BETTER" is when things start to annoy me. granted, that's not Sonic CD's fault (It's the fans) but - with the slight exception being Sonic 3D - it is the game people argue over on soundtrack.

And yeah, I have played the 2011 re-release. I still hate this game.

I guess I'm the only person who's played Sonic CD and doesn't minds Wacky Workbench one bit. Granted, the level design for pretty much all of the levels seem to be really random and all over the place (probably because the design look different depending on what time zone you're in and instead of separating the several level designs they mashed it all into one level), but I still enjoyed it.

Yeah, I used to be slightly annoyed with the war over the two soundtracks, but I've listened to both the American and Japanese soundtrack fully, I decided that the American version was better because I believe it fits the game more than the Japanese version, and whenever I see a Youtube argument over it I just ignore it

I can see why you don't like it, though.

I like Sonic CD, but nothing will beat the first two games in the series for me.

As far as the Sega CD goes, there were a LOT of good games on it if you liked Shmups or RPG's. There are a handful of RPG's that are GREAT on that system.

I love Sonic CD, its not my favorite Sonic game but its one that I will pop in the ol Sega CD every now and then, but I play Corpse Killer on the Sega CD more than I play Sonic CD. I can understand how some people could hate it though.

I see where your coming from. To be perfectly honest with you, I never quite cared for Sonic CD, my initial review score was a B+, that was VERY generous, I just didn't have the patience to deal with angry Sonic fans (fanboy is just insulting.) In general Sonic CD was just... average, Sonic CDs level designs came from hell, and the overall experience just feels washed out compared to the Genesis titles, overall I meant to give it a C. Its not terrible but its not good, so its mediocre.

People look up to sonic cd but I never really liked it at all or even cared to even play it I guess it's mostly because of the title sonic cd where's the creativity behind that I guess cd is supposed to resemble the game disc and sonic for sonic the hedgehog is the main character in the game.

I agree that Sonic CD isn't really good, but it does have it's specialties, such as the introduction of Amy Rose, and the last game to use Sonic's original Genesis design before Sonic 3's design, and it has the god-awful creepy message.
I also don't like how we got 2 different soundtracks, but if both soundtracks were in one game, and you had the choice of using one or the other, it would have been a bit better.

I liked Sonic CD game very much, but Sonic 1 will always be the best.
And about the soundtrack it would be best if the US and the JP/EU version where fused.
I listen to some of the fused songs on Youtube and it is much better fused then just the US or JP/EU version alone.
And did you know that in game history this took place before Sonic 2. And that means Amy came before Tails, strange isn't it?

I don't like the time travel thing, so I go for the Time Stones, but after that, the game seems really good to me, especially the PC version that was made by Christian Whitehead.

It looks like more people think like the same as me on this subject than I would have originally thought.  I have played through Sonic ! & 2 multiple times but have never gotten past more than a couple of levels in Sonic CD.  I just can't get into it, though to be fair it could be from the lack of a pure nostalgic factor.  You see I played sonic 1 & 2 back when they came out but never got to play Sonic Cd until emulation many years later.  And while seeing sonic in cd form does conjure up nostalgic feelings it isn't the same as the games I actually played when I was a kid.
