The purpose of school is not only to increase your knowledge but to give you practical skills that you can use in the real world.

In the real world, you have to talk to people. If you get a job, you will have to give various types of speeches to people... be it presentations to co-workers or potential clients or what have you. You need to learn how to talk to people in order to be successful. Unless you plan to work at some dead-end job your entire life, you'll need to practice public speaking.

yea I guess but sometimes we are forced to memorize it but I'm too lazy so I try my best to and I only end up memorizing about 1 q card

I know they seem bad when you are in school but doing this when you are young really helps you when you get older. I have no problem speaking in public now as an adult...and I hated it when I was a kid.

I was really bad at speeches in high school, but by the time I got to college I was over it. It helps if you don't try to memorize your speech exactly; just memorize the bullet points and let it flow naturally, and you won't panic and seize up if you forget something.

I am a horrible public speaker in large groups, but I really do enjoy speaking in small groups.

I don't know why I get so nervous, I just happen to freak out in crowds.


There's a great purpose to it, because one day EVERYBODY is going to need to speak in front of a group, and it's a great way of building self confidence.
