I haven't been on the last couple of days because we've been taking down our Christmas decorations. Although I'm not a huge fan of decorating, we've been doing it big the last couple of Christmases for my grandfather, who is 92 and doesn't know how many of these he's got left, so he wants to enjoy it big time.

Now that they're gone, I'm feeling happy...but a bit wistful, as well. It was so pretty, the tree and the ceiling garland and the lights. The living room looks rather plain and boring now. Cleaner and less cluttered, but plain.

So my question to you guys is: how long after Christmas do you let the decorations stay? I'm not just talking about the tree-outdoor lights, Christmas statues...whatever you put out for the holidays. How long does it linger in your life?

I dun really do decorating most years because I'm kinda lazy about it which turns into a two-fold problem. See, if I put them up, I'll be conflicted after New Years because it'll bother me that they're still up but I won't feel like taking them down >.<

If I could make my lights change to a specific color setting whenever I wanted, I'd totally leave them up all year round and just make the color theme appropriate... so Red/Green during Christmas time... but then switching to Pink/White (or Red/White if there's no Pink) afterwards in prep for Valentine's Day... then Green/Orange for St. Patrick's Day, Yellow/Purple for Easter... and so on and so forth...

I do it sometime around the first week of the first month.

Everyone at this country do it at that time here, because of traditions.

This Christmas, my husband I took the tree down literally on December 26. We had two kittens in the house at the time... Every single night, they would climb the tree and tear decorations off. A few of the really nice glass ones ended up broken. I tried to keep them near the top, only a partial success.

I couldn't stand it anymore. XD

I'm just that weird guy who has tinsel hanging around his ceiling and has like 5 years of Christmas cards attached to one wall... So I guess I never take them down... Not in my bedroom anyways... And considering that's the place I spend most of my time in (when I'm not throwing dodge balls or "socializing")  I would assume that it counts ...

It's always nice to have a memory of who sent you Christmas cards in the past... Just so you can be spiteful and not send one the following year... I kid.... I'm not that mean spirited

I take mine down around new years.

After I take them down I'm happy that I don't have to do any decorating until Halloween.

sonicmcmuffin: Your reply made me laugh, seriously. When I lived in my own apartment, I too had Christmas cards up on the wall all year. It just seemed...wrong...to take them down.

The Christmas decorations usually come down about two to three weeks into January. The house look's so bare without them once they're all put away.

Annette :

I totally understand how you feel. This was my kitten's first Christmas ever too; she was fairly good about the tree, but she kept demolishing the under-tree Christmas village we always put there. Poor sledders; I think I lost at least five or six of the little figurines for good.

Wow, I can't believe how many people take them down so fast. I usually spend the week between Christmas and New Years in a kind of hazy daze, trying to re-cooperate from the crazy holiday rush.

I start taking them down before New Years' Day, but I do it very slowly. Just a few things here and there. The tree is probably what lasts longest because it's such a pain to disassemble my fake arse tree that I keep putting it off. I think that and a few nick-knacks here and there are all that's left now.

I took them down January 11, mainly because that's when Christmas ends in my religion, Roman Catholic for those interested.
