Guess where I've been the last couple of days? (Anyone miss me? Probably not, lol). Thar's right. The hospital. And they suck. I apologize in advance for any weirdness here; I'm on really good drugs right now and everything is good. Fuzzy but good. Mmm, pie. Anyway. The question I wanted to ask was this: what's the longest you've ever spent in a hospital? Were you satisfied with your service? Can't ask if you had a good time; can't think of a reason you'd go to a hospital for a good thing. Except babies. I forgot about them. I was in cause of my back; I've been having back problems but they can't figure out what the problem is. (A billion x-rays and a thousand dollar MRI later, still nothing. Figures.) I don't have health insurance so they kind of sluff through stuff, since I can't afford all the neat medical tests they'd like to give me to pad out the bill. I tripped over the cat and ended up on the chair in the living room screaming. It sucked. The doctors and nurses and stuff were really nice, don't get me wrong. They were really sympathetic and helpful. I just wish they could figure out why I keep doing this. But drugs are good. What it came to was a three thousand dollar series of Morphine Shots. Oh well. What bothers me about hospitals is that every time I've been in one for an extended period of time, they always put me on a "liquid diet" even if the solidity of food has absolutely nothing to do with why I'm there. How does an injury to your eye, for example, mean you shouldn't eat solid foods for a while? That's stupid. I can understand if there was something wrong with anything in the mouth/jaw area or even some organ in the digestive system... but my eye...?
I think the longest I've been kept in one was probably somewhere between 3-4 weeks. I kinda lost track of time while I was in there though, so it's kinda hard to say :x I think the longest I've been kept in one was probably somewhere between 3-4 weeks. uh, think again hipsta, hospitals are very important, and without them, a lot of people would have died. especially for mothers. so when you mary, your wife is about to give birth, if you dont take her to the hospital, she could die before you even had you first child. sure they are boring cause you have to wait, and yeah they are expensive, but you life is much more expensive. at kids hospitals, they give stickers, candy, and pencils. and for you not to get bored, they give you toys, and stories. they do that so the kids dont get scared or bored. for adults they give out magazines. but for kids my age, it will get very boring, cause all that stuff is for very little kids. but this is a hospital, this is a serios place, and you need patience, it was not made to be fun. but you do feel very horrible every time you go to a hospital and you hear the babies screaming of pain. my little 2 year old brother had to get 4 shots on his leg ! oh and also, at that last sentence, you sounded like a gangster when you said "drugs are good ", maybe you should change it to medecines. |

haitamchouiekh: serverbot128: No, no. I appreciate the doctors and nurses-I said so in my post. I just wish that American hospitals weren't so money oriented. Like I said, there were other tests I could have taken...but they won't give them to me because I can't afford to pay for them. And I never said they weren't important or that it wasn't necessary to be there. It's just the money issue. That's really the heart of my problem with them. About the drug comment: Nope. Because pain-blocking opiate analgesics are not medicines. They are straight-up drugs; I was tripping hardcore when I came back from the hospital yesterday. (My mom said I was talking to the door because it reminded me of someone that I used to know; i have no memory of this or most of the ride home). I was given a morphine shot before I left and Percocet pills (oxycodone). So yes, I was high as heck. When you say medicine, people think good for you, safe to take things like antibiotics. Things like painkillers, although legally obtained and prescribed from your friendly doctor, are drugs. That's a very important distinction to make, especially in these days when so many kids are stealing drugs out of their parent's medicine cabinets and popping them like candy. At least half of those kids reply, "But I thought it was ok to take medicine..." See my point? serverbot128: No, no. I appreciate the doctors and nurses-I said so in my post. I agree with you about hospitals sucking. I have never really had a long stay except for me giving childbirth back in July and man that mess was so painful. |

Azul Fria : But worth it, right? For the kid, I assume. Didn't they give you those pain blockers, or did you decide to do it without them? Cause I've seen videos and even if was physically possible for me to give birth, there's no way I would do it without being drugged to the gills. |

I agree that it's worth it for the kid's sake but the part that is painful are the weeks/months leading up to childbirth. I kept feeling like I wanted to die and get it overwith then I'd be worry free but that's nonsense. |

I've been in hospitals before when I was a child. They don't suck as there is a valid reason you are there. Its just the hospital food that sucks. I've been in hospitals before when I was a child. They don't suck as there is a valid reason you are there. Its just the hospital food that sucks. |

I agree that they're not enjoyable but suck no, reason being that those people are working crazy shifts to give you the best treatments so even though they're not fun they definitely don't suck as it were. |

Yeah hospitals DO suck, especially if you don't have insurance. That's when they REALLY put you through the wringer. I'm so sorry that you are having back issues that they can't figure out. Must be painful as well as frustrating.
I hope it all works out for you! Are you feeling any better these days? I hope it all works out for you! Are you feeling any better these days? |

thenumberone: I've seriously considered moving to a country with government health care, but there's always other issues. Besides, they'd see me coming and go, HEALTH CARE STALKER!! So probably not. Update! I just got out of the hospital again! This time it was flu symptoms that I probably got from being in the hospital the last time. The only reason I went to the hospital as opposed to just hitting the doctor was that I (mysteriously...I'm getting very tired of that word, really!) swelled up like a balloon. My fingers were so swollen I almost couldn't bend them. The verdict? No idea. Have I eaten a lot of salt lately? Seriously. Blood tests came back normal and I'm almost totally un-swollen today. They think it might be heart related, but who the heck knows. I just love my doctors. Totally. "If the swelling doesn't go down in a couple of days, come back in." Yes, because I love thousand dollar hospital visits for no reason. Thanks for the tip guys. Update! I just got out of the hospital again! I vouch for that. It's always smelly and kind of hot in the rooms. NOT TO MENTION THE EXPENSE OF JUST STAYING FOR A LITTLE SHOT. The food isn't fit for kids, and WHERE ARE THOSE CUTE NURSES YOU ALWAYS SEE IN CARTOONS? I vouch for that. It's always smelly and kind of hot in the rooms. port753 : last time I was in the food was decent and there were tons of cute nurses, it was almost worth being hospitalised =p
@Thudric The canadians love imigrants, jump border =p Here there are times when the doctor cant figure it out, but so long as there are more tests they wont give up. The waiting times can be bad though. @Thudric The canadians love imigrants, jump border =p Here there are times when the doctor cant figure it out, but so long as there are more tests they wont give up. thudricdholee : I guess I am uniquely qualified to answer this one… I’ve had ten surgeries and was in and out of the hospital plenty when I was a kid. The longest I guess I’ve stayed in a hospital was a couple of months for my last major surgery.
It wasn’t so bad though because they would let me go home on the weekends so long as I was back before a certain time on Sunday nights. The reason why I was in the hospital that long had to do with my recovery and rehabilitation and such. I hated it with a passion at first and you go through various emotions in the process which make things worse because one minute you’re fine and the next you can be in tears because you’re not where you want to be and such and you miss your family. It’s happened to me more than once. Eventually though as I started recovering and feeling better it was basically like checking into a hotel, leaving for the weekend and checking back in so I could keep rehabbing and such. Please don’t misunderstand me It may have been like checking into a hotel but I did not and still don’t like hospitals especially with all the stuff I’ve learned later in life in regard to the medical and pharmaceutical industries. I was satisfied with how I was treated because I will freely admit I am not the easiest person to deal with and that is probably ten times worse when I’m laid up after surgery. They took good care of me but I was extremely happy when I was able to leave for good. I had one eye surgery after this but it’s unrelated to my disability. It’s been almost twenty years since this surgery and even though admittedly I don’t do what I should to take care of myself I have managed to stay clear of surgeries and hospitals. It’s something that I thank god for even though things may not be all milk and honey. I hope you feel better. Best of luck to you. Update the Third~! So. Four days ago I once again tripped (over the carpet, I kid you not-not a rug, or...anything. Just on the carpet.) and twisted my back. This time the muscles knotted up so tightly I literally couldn't stand up. Guess where I went? *SIGH* This time, I have to say, I enjoyed my hospital visit. Mostly because I was off my knob most of the time on painpills and muscle relaxants. Hospital showers are awesome. I have to admit that. The shower heads in this hospital were so nice. My neighbor kept beeping for the nurse and swearing at her. It made for some really interesting dreams. The doctors and nurses were super-sweet and helpful, but blech. Who decided that hospital sheets need to be stiff and scratchy, and that hospital blankets need to be thin (and scratchy). And having my butt hanging out of a hospital gown when you can't stand up straight is...uh, fun. So. Four days ago I once again tripped (over the carpet, I kid you not-not a rug, or...anything.
