I've noticed that while playing on highscore mode for GB, GBC, and GBA (and maybe other systems that I'm missing), that you can still use the space bar to speed up the game. Since the time taken to get the score is important, shouldn't the space bar speed up function be disabled in highscore mode?

madison : I thought they should be disable already? Hmp, looks like Davideo7 forgotten to disable them I guess? Either that or when you press spacebar, not only that but time speed up as well? Not sure.

Could you try to test that for 1 minute to see if the Speedrun time moves along the time in-game?

If the time speeded up in-game time don't go along the time Speedrun, you could try to report that to Triune.

I just tested to make sure, and no, the timer doesn't speed up while you hold the space bar, only the game does.

tRIUNE : Summoning you so you can see the problem. It's explained in the first post. Thanks.

It only speeds it up for you... You could play many more "hours" within a matter of hours just pressing the space bar...

Well while we're at it... here's another issue: SNES games.

By default, there's nothing wrong with doing a high score run on ZSNES... but let's remember that ESC gives access to the entire ZSNES menu which could allow you to do ANYTHING. We're not talking about just setting a hot key to speed up, but also flat-out cheating. It may be necessary to disable the menu entirely in high score mode for ZSNES.

Crazy Li : I might be mistaken, but I think if you go into the ZSNES menu while playing on highscore mode, the screenshot taking button gets disabled until you exit and restart the window. (At least that's what it seems like it did to me when I tried to adjust the controls in the ZSNES menu before playing. I had to set the controls outside of highscore mode to get it to work.)

madison : I guess that's one way to do it... though this brings about another concern... what if you set a fast forward key outside of high score mode? It would carry over to high score mode and you can use it to speed through stuff all the same.

I guess this is another reason to push for video high score competitions when the video recording is publicly released.

Crazy Li : I didn't even know the ZSNES menu had a thing for fast forwarding. I didn't look to hard in there, so yeah, I guess the SNES has the same issue with fast forwarding in highscore mode that the GB, GBC, and GBA games have.

tRIUNE : That's something you should ask Tom about.

madison : Good thinking, I never even thought about that. Yeah it'd definitely be a good idea to disable that, especially if I was to add a speed run to a game boy game.
