The thing to do is to double check yourself and be partially good.
By that I mean there is no shame in replaying a level to find that secret button. Just keep racking up the points
As for all the other, being great only gets you a 1-up, so be 2nd best and you'll get 5000 points at the end of levels and bonus mini games. And just like that you can hit the top leader boards in no time.
