To be honest I though Black Knight was the best, followed by Unleashed (Wii/PS2). I felt it had great gameplay and awesome music, graphics could've been a little better

I would have leaned towards Sonic Heroes. That's more of a "dark age" game and it wasn't that bad. It was just too short. They would have been better off with twice as many stages and half as many teams.

You should probably enable multi-voting in this poll since the title is about what game was tolerable, not what game was best.

Honestly, of the ones I played, I rather enjoyed all of them. Didn't find them to be as bad as everyone makes them out to be, though I do agree Shadow says damn too much in his game. The only games I haven't played from that age are Sonic 2006 and Sonic Unleashed's HD version because I cannot play those games. I do have the Wii version of Unleashed, though. Kinda wish they would've kept in the Tornado missions for that version, but that's just me.

Jeez... I can't really say I enjoyed ANY of those games... the closest was Unleashed but only during the NON Werehog parts was it tollerable.

Unleashed (PS3/360) was amazing. Against its criticisms, the Werehog half of the game was not bad, it was actually a lot like the classics in my opinion, but with different play. I think the concept of night/day transformation was criticized because it was already done (twilight princess). The day time half was the best part. Not only does it play very well, it had actual exploration in multiple semi-linear paths. If you take the time to go slow on the 2nd act of Windmill Isle for example, you can find tons of places to admire the work Sonic Team put into it. Most, if not all, of the music was great, fitting, and helped establish an actual sense of life within the game.

dazzsheil : I personally felt Sonic '06 and Black Night were the worst. Sonic '06 is the most flawed and buggy game of all time, and Black Knight did have some cool elements, but was MUCH too repetitive for me. My personal favorite was Shadow The Hedgehog, because of the new elements. Sure, the idea of guns and cursing in a Sonic game is Mind-Blowingly stupid, but the game was playable, had some cool levels, and the mulitplayer had a TON of replay value. Still a very flawed and overall ridiculous game though.

I would have to say Shadow the Hedgehog. The rest of the games have pretty bad controls and are easier. I actually liked the guns and the cursing didn't make it any different for me (it kind of fit in for me). Even though you can't play as Sonic or others, I can still play it without going insane. '06 nearly did. And don't even mention Secret Rings (biggest waste of $20). I should've learned my lesson, but I also wasted $20 again on that junky Sonic Riders Zero Gravity. Those 2 influenced me to not get any other Sonic games for the Wii (I'm glad I missed Dark Knight).

.....This was posted from my 3DS. Wow! It actually worked.

I really like Sonic Unleashed, The Black Night, and The Secret Rings. Everything else is just sort of bad. But Sonic Unleashed is the top for me. Very fun and addicting game, although it had a few minors here and there and the end boss battle is pretty wicked. My vote goes to Sonic Unleashed.

I would have to say that Sonic and the secret rings is the best because it is the only one I have played in that time period.

This position goes to Sonic Unleashed Hd. It had a fair amount of sonic and werehog stages(something the Wii version lacked), the 3D sonic stages are phenomenal, and was actually quite enjoyable. Excellent music also

I loved Unleashed HD (even the werehog stages), as it had such a fun gameplay, good story and tons of replayability. Shadow, Riders and Secret Rings were also good, but not that great. As for the rest however I don't very much enjoy replaying at all.

The Dark Age has its ups and downs, but overall its not a bad era. I can deal with the 3D conversion to it, the control and some other ideas could have been tweaked. Especially a game in 2006. Bleh.

Overall, its not bad, but it could have been better. At least as of now, they're slowly getting better at its design.

Since Sonic Heroes isn't on the list..

I found Unleashed HD a step in the right direction for the series, but can't really say I was a fan of the Werehog stages. The Sonic stages more than made up for the Werehog stages and I found it the best part of Unleashed HD.

One of the reasons why I didn't like the Werehog stages is because it didn't feel like "Sonic" and felt more of a thing they stuck in to extend game time. It took me around 10-15 minutes to complete a single Werehog stage.. That's too long for a Sonic stage, but it's a minor thing.

I think Unleashed HD's Sonic stages was the main reason why Colors and Generations turned out the way they did. (I don't know if Sonic 4 counts, since I never played it and Dimps was a main part of it.)

Haha, dark age. Clever. I would have to go with Shadow the Hedgehog. I loved that game a few years back. It's actually pretty fun. It adds more swearing and guns and explosions to the Sonic universe. And the light/dark/neutral branching storylines added a lot of replay value. Nowadays I don't really play it but I wouldn't call it a bad game. It's pretty good. Nothing amazing of course, but good.

Sonic Unleashed for the PS2/Wii.  I liked it's gameplay and it was much better than the PS3/360 versions.  Also, it's gameplay in the day stages setup the gameplay for Sonic Colors.

Sonic Unleashed for Wii/PS2 is NOT as bad as people say, in fact, I find it fun.  The reason people hate the Werehog is because it's not about speed, but I'm happy Sega wants to try changing it up, but when they DO change it up, the fans go and complain about how it wasn't pure Sonic. I'm happy to see people here agree with what I believe was a good idea by Sega.

Sonic Unleashed was the best in Sonic's dark age. As much as I couldn't stand the warewolf concept, I liked the game. The day stages are incredible, and that style of play is used in most of the later releases. Overall Sonic Unleashed was pretty good. To bad the warewolf concept bogged it down.
