This game, man, just this game. My whole entire childhood was in this game. Sitting in my bed just playing this hours on end was absolutely astounding.  This, out of all the games, was the closest to the actual show, and I must say,  the overall game was much better than its corresponding brother and sister, red and blue. The actual mechanics for the game were well formed for it's premature time. This game got me to use different Pokémon, for when I was young I would use just generally over-powered Pokémon in my actual game play; after this I started branching off and using lesser known and weaker Pokémon.

I also LOVE this game. I used to catch hell from my mom all the time for playing this game late into the night. I loved the ability to get all three starters that they incorporated into not only the show, but the game itself. BTW, have the Pokemon Hack called Pokemon: Ash Gray Version? You can play it on this website and it's a pretty solid hack that follows Season 1 of the Pokemon TV show almost exactly. You should really check it out. Overall, Yellow is clearly the best 1st Gen game, but my overall favorite game would have to be Pokemon Silver. The graphics and coloration were really improved so that it truly popped out at you, and the story was excellent.

Pokémon yellow was amazing indeed. But I played silver a lot more. But Pokémon yellow is the reason I started with Pokémon.
Lugia is my favorite childhood Pokémon. I remember when my mom bought me the game for me.
we were in America, in some town with huge stores. 
there also was a games store, after playing yellow I wanted to try another version, but my sister said there were not other versions, well she was wrong.
When I had to go to bed I always played for like an hour. hehe good times
