So guys, just wanted to ask you all what you all thought of Sonic 3D Blast for the Mega Drive/ Saturn that came out in 1996? Did you like the game? Why/ Why not? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Sonic 3D Blast is an excellent game if we are talking about the one for Mega-Drive. The game was made for the Saturn and yet they were able to stuff the literally huge game onto a Mega-Drive Cartridge. The game play is fine but it is missing a few things. Like continues, some new themes, and others. Overall, the game is good enough to be on my list of Top 20 Sonic Games.

I enjoy Sonic 3D blast. I like the smooth clean graphics and the fluid animations. Although it's not exactly addicting and it will really only appeal to hardcore Sonic fans like me. However Sonic 3D blast was one of the first games I played besides Sonic 2 and I don't know if that changes the perspective.

Sonic 3D Blast is another example of Sega's huge rush to get games out by certain dates. In many cases, they forego quality to speed up development time, and that's why you see such a large decline in the Sonic games' quality these days. For Christmas of 1996, the big game was supposed to be Sonic X-Treme. They worked on it for awhile, did a few demos, it was supposed to bring Sonic into the 3D realm, kind of like Sonic Adventure. Some issues happened with Sonic Extreme, part of it was development issues and problems with the game engine. When it got cancelled, they only had a few short months to cobble together something for the Genesis ASAP.

So what happened? Sonic 3D Blast. The upcoming christmas special was retitled from Sonic's X-Treme Christmas, to Sonic's Christmas Blast; and the rest is history. As for my personal thoughts on the game, I'm not a huge fan. I got tired of the repetitive, un-innovative gameplay VERY quickly.

I would say that the majority of people hate this game for two reasons
1). The tediousness
2). The Saturn Version replaced X-Treme
I would think that Sonic X-Treme would've bombed anyways. the graphics were not Saturn standards and the gameplay looked very confusing. It looks like poop compared to Sonic Worlds in Sonic Jam that came out only a few months later on the Saturn. Let's just say that Sonic 3D Blast on Saturn is an okay game. I prefer the Mega Drive version anyways

I think the game was fairly good. Unlike its previous siblings, it does not have the ability to turn super or hyper if you refer to sonic 3 & knuckles. However, it did grant you the ability to fight the Extra final boss. The final- boss.....it has potential to be good, but only of sonic was able to go super.

with that being said, I think sonic 3D blast was a good game. The isometric 3-D view was pretty smart of Sega. Though... I'm not really sure if it was ripping off Nintendo 64's Super Mario 64, for I have no clue which game was made first. But anyway, the storyline seems rather typical yet unusual. Sonic the hedgehog having to save birds...just birds. No walrus or penguins or woodland creatures. Just birds... but still pretty good. As I said before, sonic being controlled from a higher 3D point of view was pretty cool. It inspired the future of great ( okay,... some not so great) 3D sonic games. The controls were good, too. I thought that since it was a three dimensional game, it would kind rule out the rolling spin attack. When I learned that they added a button for  a rolling spin attack while moving and a button for a spin dash attack----okay, they have the same button--- it really impressed me. When I bounce off of random walls in the game I ended up finding secret stuff and getting bonuses.. I also Like the soundtrack in the game. My favorite's are the diamond dust zone, spring stadium, and  Rusty Ruins Zone. There's a lot I could say about this game, but to put it in short, its an awesome game. The first time I played that game was when I had the mega collection PLUS for my box. It was my favorite game... up until sonic 3 & knuckles was unlocked. Nonetheless, Sonic 3D blast was non stop fun for me.

I didn't really care for all the silly Flicky collection aspects... or the lack of ability to use anyone but Sonic... I also thought the gameplay was a bit awkward. I should give the No Flickies hack on here a try though and see if that creates a better experience. I do remember liking the music from the game at least.

Sonic 3D Blast. One of two Sonic related games on the Genesis I never owned, the other being Mean Bean Machine, though I did rent this title for two days. Had it 100% beaten on midnight of the second day, and was pretty proud of myself. I enjoyed the game as a kid, and I still enjoy the game to this day, enough to make a Let's Play of it.

I don't really get why many of the complaints about the game were about freeing Flickies. It's not like Sonic hasn't freed animals before. *pokes Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and S3K* As far as I can see, it's just a nice extension of a previous mechanic, and worth quite a few bonus points if you're good enough to keep the flickies together.

About my only real complaint for the game is that dang volcano zone. So many deaths there.

The game isn't my favorite, but it is acceptable. It has bad control for me. I do like the soundtrack, though.
