In my opinion. The portable series is better because the games are fun and maintain goodness in each of them. Unlike the console series where it goes up and down. One example is Sonic 2006 - Sonic and the Secret Rings.

I will have to say that i prefer the games on the console to handheld ones. Just due to the fact that i like to play games on bigger screens. Plus i also grew up with the console versions a lot more than the portable ones.

I prefer the console series even though they've been hit or miss with that cough sonic 06 cough.  I only say console I've only played sonic genesis for the game boy.
