This question came into my head after i had an argument about how some games are just bragged about when i can't see the appeal of them myself.

As for me i think the most overrated game is Modern Warfare 3. To me it's just a crappy generic Multiplayer shooting game.

I can understand why people like the game of course, but it's not the sort of game i could sit and play for hours, It's practically kill, die, die,kill kill. And if your lazy or "tactical" then you also camp.

My landlord plays Survival or whatever it is called. Roughly 6 hours a day. every day. He plays the same map and camps in the same spot for 6 hours. How is this fun?

So what game do you find is overrated?

I don't like bashing other video games, but I do think that CoD is a little overrated... but that may just be because I don't LIKE it.

Still, among FPSs (which I don't like in general), I think CoD is just poor. Yet look at Modern Warfare 3... it was HUGE and was rated 88% by metacritic and gamerankings.

Light Knight : It's not about saying other games are rubbish, It's just your opinion on a game that your friends love for example but you don't see why. Like how some people are obsessed with halo, whilst others don't enjoy playing at all

I'm inclined to say the Final Fantasy and Metal Gear series.  I've heard great things about both, and I enjoy the gameplay portions very much.  But the 30m-1hr cutscenes tend to make it impossible to stay focused on the game.  I prefer instantaneous action and gameplay with short and concise scenes. Games like Monster Hunter and games like it are far more entertaining to me

Definitely Call of Duty. It's a simple shooter series that repeats gameplay and story every time. They barely change anything at all, and it's extremely boring. And yet, it always sells a ton of copies to their "die hard fans".

gamegeek : that's understandable you are the type of person that would rather just get on with the game than watch Cut scenes throughout it, There's nothing wrong with that

MegaRevolution1 : that's the main reason i dislike it, plus you always get the idiotic people who say because they are good at Call of Duty then they will be good in the actual army... Sadly i don't think they realise that reality doesn't have a respawn feature yet.

As for Megaman, I agree you could also add Pokémon to that list i suppose

And don't get me wrong, I do like MegaMan, but it does seem a bit overrated. And yeah, Pokemon definitely goes with that too.

I think that there are quite a few games I think are overrated... You might get extremely mad at me for mentioning these, but hear me out. I absolutely hate the way that the Grand Theft Auto, Halo, Gears of War, Half Life, and other shooting game series represent themselves, because at their core, they are the exact same game! If they were actually different in genre, they might be OK, but the problem is that they are really identical and boring. If I want to play a shooting game (which I don't do much) then I expect some difference!

I have to disagree with you on how those shooters are all the same.  I'll grant you that at it's core, the Shooter genre is just point and click with more explosions, but the way they choose to play the cards makes them unique.

Grand Theft Auto prefers making you and your enemies frail as glass and letting you figure out how to stay alive.
Gears of War is big on chest-high walls and big guns, and lets you either be a strategist or a run-n-gun commando.
Halo prefers flashy and nearly cinematic battles (For example, Halo 3; You're having a laser shootout with a floating sphere over long walkways)
And Half-life loves showing off it's physics and stuff.  Especially with its gravity gun.

If you find them unoriginal, that's your opinion though XD

Ocerina of Time, its a fantastic game but not quite best of all time like many sources state. But what is really overrated is Call of Duty..it's understandable why it's so popular, it's fast fun action, but it's really not quite a deep experience that you would get with games such as Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy.

I think COD, because it is the same thing every year, in fact, they come out with a COD very year. They rush the games, everything is the same. Nothing has changed since COD 4. And half the things are copied off of Halo.

I think these games are complete trash and are excessively overrated:
-Modern Warfare 2
-Modern Warfare 3
-The entire Halo series
-Any first-person shooter ever made

These I enjoy but are overrated
-Final Fantasy VII (feel free to kill me)
-Final Fantasy VI (same thing)

I absolutely detest Call of Duty. There is nothing to the gameplay, the weapons are generic, there's not much point in unlocks, and the community, oh god the community. I hate to generalize, because I am sure that there are plenty of people who are nice and polite who play CoD, but generally speaking, the fanbase is just 1337 H4XXX0rZ and OMG NUB!!11!!!! Or HEADSHOT!!!!!!!! Now please don't be offended by this, but I am speaking of the people on YouTube like "KID CRIES ON COD!" and things of that nature. I'm actually somewhat fond of Halo, probably because the developers try to make the game exciting and different. COD fanboys are way to easy to please.

My biggest one would be Xenoblade Chronicles.
Where do I begin? There was this whole huge movement called "Operation Rainfall" to get this game and two other games translated and dubbed for english audiences. While I can't say I've played the other two, I can say that I have no idea why people wanted this game over here because the plot is cliche, stupid, and wastes potential, the gameplay is repetitive, has zero variety and is incredibly grindy and at times, unfairly cheap (why is it that I can't beat a bonus boss that my entire team is five levels above?), and while the presentation is some of the best the Wii has to offer, it still doesn't measure up to HD console games, and sometimes causes slowdown issues. I just don't understand why people love this game, I don't...

I would say Call of Duty is really overrated because the only good thing about it is the zombies. I probably just think this because i have never played multiplayer and apparently thats the best part.
