I would probably just try to ease myself back into the community by doing what I've always been doing: going into the chat, posting, etc.

I think making a thread asking if people remember you is being a bit to pushy about it. People will remember you if you were memorable, and you can find out easily if you just talk to them instead of calling attention with a thread.
