Adventures in the Magic Kingdom is a unique action game set in Disneyland.
As many of the park's attractions play differently, it has the feel of a mini-game collection blended with a platforming action game. The story has a new Disney character, a cowboy-hat-sporting (but otherwise generic) white-boy going on a quest to retrieve keys in the Magic Kingdom. Mickey and the Gang has asked him to retrieve the keys so they can put on a parade. Many of Disneyland's well-known attractions are featured as levels, and game play of each is quite varied. For instance, while Space Mountain has the player responding rapidly to onscreen prompts and pressing the correct button, Thunder Mountain railroad and the Raceway feature controlling vehicles from an overhead perspective. Perhaps the most fun to be had is at the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, which features side-scrolling platforming while the hero takes down baddies with thrown candles.
Disappointingly, the game is very short and in a way feels like a partial waste of the Disney license. While exploring Disneyland in a game is a fun idea, the novelty soon wears off and all but the youngest and most incompetent players will breeze through the game in under an hour. Moreover, it feels disappointing and lazy to play as a cowboy-sporting child when Mickey, Donald, Goofy and the rest of the gang sit on the sidelines, robbed of their chance to be featured as playable characters.
Overall, Adventures in the Magic Kingdom is fun while it lasts, but given its lack of depth and challenge it will not hold long the attention of anyone but the youngest of game-players.
