The graphics could have been better, but for nes Kirby's graphics were great, and like all other Kirby games Kirby's adventure had very bright and cheerful colours. The backgrounds are very nice too, ranging from a deep forest to a sandy beach, even high in the sky, the backgrounds also moved along with Kirby very accurately, which gives a great sense of realism. The enemy's were equal with Kirby's quality and even though you have to KO them they're still kind of cute. Bestly though are the sub-bosses and actual bosses, with less cheerful colours but remaining still visible and having many sprites it is very fun just to be in the boss battle watching their attacks. Overall the graphics are bright and cheery even during the boss fights and could not scare a 2-year old girl.
The sounds are very fitting from the sound of a waddle doo's beam to Kirby slashing his sword all the noises fit very well, but noises are just the beginning. The music in Kirby was plain amazing in NES standards, from the cheerful music of vegetable valley the music could relieve you after being victim of a scary pop-up. But it's not always cheery, during boss battles and the menacing battles against the Meta knight's the music always fits perfectly, but don't worry about being scared, you should know Kirby games never scare anyone, while still fitting the scenario that is.
Early Kirby games weren't exactly what you would call addicting, although the Kirby franchise has always been replayable Kirby's adventure just doesn't fit today's standards. I'm not saying Kirby games aren't good or addicting, it's just with the old NES system isn't exactly high quality and although you may come back Kirby's adventure is just not an addicting game as much as some others like SMB, even so you should still give it a try, since it's suitable for anyone and everyone.
The story isn't specified very well but the basic Idea is King Dedede has stolen the star wand and broke into 7 pieces, 5 for a powerful demon beast in each world, one for his highly trusted servant Meta knight and one for himself. It's up to you (Kirby) to beat the demon beast, Meta Knight, and king Dedede himself in order to restore peaceful dreams to dreamland. That's all, not much even for a Kirby game, but hey, what story was much good in the NES games anyways?
Kirby's adventure is much longer than Kirby's Dreamland, which consist of only three worlds and a final boss, but Kirby's adventure consist of SEVEN worlds and a final boss, much longer than Kirby's dreamland, although it's not necessarily long in game standards, as some levels in world 1 can be cleared in under a minute without a speed run, but the game consist of four levels and a boss each world MINIMUM. It's not very long compared to some other games, but it will keep you playing for a while. Bestly though is the hub, which you can explore and walk around in and replay different levels looking for secrets and along through the game are a few fun mini games to play for prizes like extra points or 1-ups. The last thing in this section are abilities, there is a variety of ability's to choose from and you need certain abilities tom go to different areas. You can also play in your own way, if you want good power than you can go for the short ranged sword, and if you want to keep your distances than you can choose laser. This was a first in games and another reason why you should really give Kirby's adventure a shot.
Kirby as you know is very child friendly right? So you shouldn't expect this to be much of a challenge, it's fairly easy with a very slow learning curve that gives you plenty of time to adjust to the ever-so slowly difficulty ramp. Kirby's adventure is a very, VERY easy game, while still showing a needed effort, but hey, what would you expect from a Kirby game? Still, the Kirby games aren't that easy and still give you a challenge in the later areas, so if you want a challenge but want a good amount of time to adjust you should give Kirby's adventure a try.
Overall Kirby is bright and cheery, with great noises and music while still remaining tense at the right times, it's not too addictive but you still might come back even though it's not got much of a story. It's fairly long compared to Kirby's dreamland while not taking as long as a Zelda game, in total Kirby's dreamland is a great game for all people of all ages. However if you're looking for a bit more of a challenge than head over to Super Mario Brothers or Pokémon, but it's a good game even so and even if it's a bit easy you should still give it a try. |
