I'm not a major Mario fan so I haven't played all of his games.

The Mario games I really enjoy are the multi-player ones like Super Smash Brothers, Mariokart and all Mario Parties. Mario 64 is the only exception.

I quite enjoyed the NES version of SMB, however it's not my favorite.

If Super Mario RPG counts then my vote goes to that all the way. I've actually played a lot of Mario games I just lack the attention span to finish them. However SMRPG is quite different than most of the Mario games, and I hardly pay attention to the Mario and Luigi games for the handheld consoles.

I really liked The New Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo DS. I found the growing very huge and smashing the whole level part AWESOME! I also like both of the Paper Mario's.
