In E.V.O. it's all about the evolution.
Story: In E.V.O. you start as the first creature on earth (underwater). Then you evolve through the millions of years of earth history till the first men. The special and interesting thing on E.V.O. is that there are many different ends. For example you can fly away with the bird king and million years later you get sighted by men and they draw huge pictures of you into the sand or you can fly away as a dragon and meet funny little green aliens.
Gameplay: It's like a RPG. That means you beat enemies and get EVO Points (experience). You can invest these EVO Points into different parts of your body, like jaw, neck, hands & feet, body, etc. When you do that your animal changes its look and it's capabilities. This RPG element is cool and gives something special to the game because you change your look with every new body part you get. In each chapter you're walking on a different world (like in Mario World) and go from one level to the other. The fights are very simple: you just bite or later kick your enemies. The normal enemies are not very difficult with the wright body parts but the boss fights are hard and can be very frustrating when you don't know how to beat them.
Graphic: The graphic of E.V.O. is ok, not the best on SNES but good to watch. The foreground has some good animations but the background is very pixelated.
Sound: The sound is also ok. Nothing special and not memorable but it matches to the atmosphere of the game.
Conclusion:
E.V.O. is a very special game with a one of a kind story about the evolution of life on earth. It looks ok and has some good animated animals but pixelated backgrounds. The fights are not very difficult except the boss fights and the changing look of the animal you control gives the game something special. In the end you can say that E.V.O. is a good game which is truly something special because of the story and the gameplay.

That's an interesting concept. It reminds me a lot about Spore. It's neat to see that they came up with an idea like that about evolution before a game like Spore today. What's really neat is the different ways that your civilization can proceed through its stages of life.

man i love this game its kinda hard and a little unpolished but its still interesting and such

I rented this game like 4 times when I was a kid even though I beat it the second time I rented it. I love the hundreds of different creatures you can make by using different evolution combinations. It is fairly easy though. It is extremely easy when you learn the best evolution combinations to use for each level. I remember thinking this game takes hours to beat when I played it as a kid. But when I found it here, it only took me like an hour and a half. But it is still an amazing game.
