I just got a job as a lifeguard and need to stay in shape. The problem is I can't find a good 6 day a week workout plan. Does anyone know where I can find one?

If you're looking for an athletic workout plan, I'd suggest Tae Bo. It's martial arts mixed with exercise....you'll see results almost instantly. A friend of mine lost hundreds of pounds and gained a muscular tone to her body. Hope that helps.

Lifeguard? Congratz on the new job.

Try a mix of running, weight-lifting, swimming laps, and joining a sports team of some sort. Do something different every day. I know it's not detailed but I'll leave the creativity up to you.

I dunno, everyone's work-out plan is different -- you could Google 'lifeguard workout' or 'lifeguard preparation', or something like that. As for me, I'll lift weights 6 days a week, for about 30 min. daily and I'll run about 3 miles 2-3 days out of the week.

Stretching is key though, spend about 5 min. stretching before you go running, and about 30 min. before you go to bed.

I hate to take the obvious one, but join a competitive swim team. Swimming is a full body workout so it will get you in shape. As long as you don't quit, you should be able to stay in shape. It can also improve your swimming skills which certainly can't hurt. I think most YMCAs have swim teams, but there are also some independent swim clubs that serve the same purpose.

Martial Arts are good too. I personally prefer Muay Thai Kickboxing. It's twice the workout of cardio kickboxing and you learn actual fighting skills rather than doing those pathetic knee strikes that people do during cardio kickboxing classes.

BNuge : I plan to join a swim team once the weather warms up a little. I also used to take Kenpo, which is a defensive style martial art. I can also practice that. Thanks for the ideas.

spectergaj :

American Kenpo or traditional? I did American Kenpo for four years, then moved up to kickboxing (since the Kenpo program had an age limit at the school I go to).

BNuge : I did American Kenpo for two and a half years. I want to start taking classes again. What belt did you make it to?

spectergaj : I got a regular Black Belt. They call it junior black belt, but that doesn't sound very good. I had to take 2 two hour tests and a 3rd test that was four or five hours. The belt I earned is a level below first degree.
