Could someone please explain the charm of mega man to me. I would love to say I like this series of games but even after I visit a website that tells me the best and worst mega man I fail to see the difference.

Perhaps you can help, I am trying to get into this game, which one should I play first? and what features should I appreciate about each particular game.

Also I don't think Vizzed has every incarnation of the game, what versions are their that I should not miss and do you recommend.

I'd start with Mega Man 2. I only know of the NES version. Play that one. Most people I know point to that as the best game. It is quite fun and hard (though I'm not much of a platform gamer).

To be honest, I've never really seen what people loved about Mega Man so much either. I remember playing Mega Man X or something to that line a long time ago... and I actually enjoyed that. But after playing some of the original NES ones I was turned off by the extreme difficulty (to me anyways).

I can understand with the original Mega Man series, fun as they can be at times there never really is that much variation. Mega Man X i always enjoyed more because I find X( and nearly all of the characters for that matter) to be much better..Mega Man was always too child like for my tastes.

I'd Recommend the earliest mega man x games, or Mega Man 8 or 10.

Loser man is a lame insult...

MegaMan is an awesome series that has captivated me from the word go. The NES/SNES line of games is a little harder than some like to admit, which leads to people disliking it, and the 3D games changed the format a bit.

I'd say the best mega man games are the Battle Network games on the Game Boy Advance, and the Legends series on the PSX.

I would list why Mega Man is a good game franchise, but It'll be a lot easier to give you a link here and you can read a review I made for Mega Man 2. I hope this helps.

In megaman games you can assimilate the powers of each boss you defeat and there are many different kinds (EX, X-series, Zero series, Legends, hacked). They even use megaman characters in fighting games like Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Marvel vs Capcom (1-3). It's considered a platform shooter much like Super Metroid so I wouldn't see why anyone would dislike it in that sense. Anyways Megaman is a part of gaming history and it was a very good game back in NES era whether you like it or not depends on your preference.

The charm of Mega Man usually comes from the music, the level design(in some cases), and the Robot Masters. And they never cease to fail, because the music is always great, the level designs or pretty good, and the Robot Masters usually have some type of charm to them.

You should probably play Mega Man 2 first. If you try to play the original first, you'll probably quit the series.

Yeah, MegaMan has several series, and there is a best / worst of all. I only have the newer series, but I'd have to say that Geo (the main character) series, wasn't bad..

Megaman is a great series because of how quickly you can play it and that it's a perfect balance between easy and hard. Besides, for any game really, you can't judge it before you play it.

I can understand, Mega Man might come off as cartoony to people who generally enjoy games a bit more mature. Even I as a kid always liked Megaman X more than the original series, even though i like both. My advice to you would be to try out some of the earliest mega man x games. The characters, storyline, basically everything is more of a challenge

It's the type of game.

Action sidescrollers may not interest everyone, but once you play the games they're actually really fun.

As for your first game, Megaman Zero. I much prefer the Zero series over the X series.

edit

Sorry for the bump, didn't see the last post date when I clicked the megaman sub forum :/

You would have to have been into gaming around the era the 8-bit MM games came out. Back then, among the other NES games, Mega Man was extreme fun. It was challenging and interesting. Each game that came out was looked forward to because you wanted to see what new robots there were. And Capcom could keep doing that for a while because back we didn't have the standards or technology for games that people prefer today. So back then anybody could have gotten away with doing something like that. It goes for the "X" series, too. But having a "same game, different robots" game today would easily be criticized (mostly by people who think others wouldn't like the concept and aren't the best critics to begin with) so something new would have to be created. Which is probably why the Mega Man games changed over the years into the 3D versions and whatever it's evolved to today.

20 years ago, it could be said that Mega Man was the "Call of Duty" series of the 90's. And late very 80's, too. Most of you young'uns are used to all the high-tech, beautifully rendered graphical games that exist today to give a rat's ass about what existed in the "stone age" of gaming. Can't really blame you though. However, it would be wise to listen to veteran gamers such as ol' Cyro here when they speak of 8-bit and 16-bit games of the past being a lot fun, because we know that the old Mega Man games are still just as fun to play as Call of Duty and it they still have a place in our heart. The same goes for games like Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and Mike Tyson's Punch Out. And I can tell you guys this with 23 years of gaming memories and experience behind me.

This is probably an old question and you probably found your answer but in case u didn't each mega man series has its own type of gameplay.

Mega Man Classic:

The series that kicked it all off, the original Mega Man game is a 2D platformer game in which you have to defeat several robot masters to attain their abilities and enter Dr. Wily's fortress (in Mega Man 4-6, there are two castles you have to go through). These games present a challenge to ALOT of people due to tricky jumps, annoyingly placed enemies, lasers (Mega Man 2), difficult stages, spikes, etc. if you like challenges then this would be a good starting point.

Mega Man X:

100 years into the future, we reach the X series. A new breed of robots known as reploids have gone loose, and its your job to bring them down. The X series relates to Metroid in the sense that you start off with no power-ups or energy tanks/sub tanks and have to find them all to be powered up to the max. Otherwise its pretty much like the classic series. A few new things is the ability to wall jump, dash rather than slide, collect energy tanks (refillable tanks that allow you to heal. You can fill them up by collecting health at full health.), and upgrade yourself. This is slightly harder than the classic series, but beatable thanks to good old power ups. This would be a good game to play if you like exploring levels to power X up and defeat Sigma, the antagonist.

Megaman Zero:

This series isn't your typical mega man series. For one thing, the protagonist Zero (from the mega man series), doesn't collect abilities the same way as in the X or classic series. Another thing is that Zero can power up using cyber elves. This series is fun though because of the many challenging bosses such as Omega Zero and Phantom as well as the new type of gameplay it presents, which carries on into the Zx series (which isnt playable on Vizzed)

Megaman Battle Network:

I'm skipping ZX and Starforce because they're not playable on Vizzed. Battle Network is a complete remake on Mega Man. In a parallel universe, Negaman is now a netnavi for the protagonist Lan Hikari (I think I said his last name right). This is probably the easiest of the mega man series but it's pretty long. There are a few hard parts such as Bass and...well Bass, but overall it's not too bad a place to start.

Megaman Legends (Megaman 64):

You up for a 3D megaman game? If so try this game. Megaman legends is a 3D version of megaman that allows you to move around and interact with 3D characters like Roll. This is unique because it really doesn't fit into a timeline. Here's what I mean:

Classic->X->Zero->ZX
BN->Starforce
Legends

It's long and gameplay may be a bit hard to learn, but once you get used to it it won't be that bad.

You may have already gotten an answer but if not I hope you enjoy this feedback and end up liking megaman.
