Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
It’s ultimate man!
Hey, it’s Jacob again, reporting for my next review. Anyways, this is a game I currently own on my SNES. I have very fond memories of this game, along with very foul ones too. For one, it’s as hard AS H**L. As it was last time, I’m gonna give six catagories: Story, Graphics, Sound, Gameplay, Difficulty Curve, and Replayability. Here we goez!
Story: n/a
Like many SNES games, this one lacks a story. Therefore, it’ll be void of this score.
Graphics: 9/10
Graphics in this game are suprisingly good. VERY SUPRISINGLY. Because this is a SNES game, you’d expect flat, anime style character ala Street Fighter. However, Mortal Kombat 3 was waaay ahead of its time. Each character looks realistic, even with their un-realistic properties. As the seconds tick away and you’re thinking of a battle plan, your character is in battle ready position, moving back and forth; even the breathing is simulated. Great, great graphics
Sound: 4/10
Yikes. By far the weakest part in the game. I mean, it pales in comparison to the graphics. The menu is emotionless; the only noise that you’ll ever hear there is a generic “gong†when you click Start. Everything sounds fuzzy…it makes it feel cheap. I’m very surprised that the sound was so poor; after spending all the time on the graphics…
Gameplay: 7/10
Nothing really “huge†in this department. You have a choice between single player, 2 on 2 multiplayer, or a tournament, with 8 players. Most likely, you’ll only be able to play “Single Playerâ€, so that’s what I’ll get in depth with in this review. You have a choice between 4 difficulty levels, of which each add a few more fights til you get the final boss. Not a whole lot of depth, but with only 5 or so continues, you’ll see the difficulty being ramped up each difficulty level. There are several different characters to choose from, each with a different fighting style. A pretty solid section, but nothing real special.
Difficulty Curve: 7/10
Well, the game is friggen hard, but compared to its difficulty, the learning curve is actually not half bad. It’s hard at first, even on easy, and then it gradually gets harder to the point that it gets impossible. Don’t worry, though, you’ll eventually get used to the fighting style and * at last * get good at it. With an overall Difficulty setting in the “Options†menu, you can set it for your own preferences, if you’re too much of a pansy for the hard stuff.
Replayability: 7/10
Like the gameplay, not really great, but it’s still solid. You’ll want to come back to this game for quite a while; the fun only ends when you’ve mastered the hardest difficulty level (of which, FYI, won’t happen

) If you can get a couple of friends over, then you’ll drain a few extra hours trying to master the combos and finisher moves.
Overview: 6.8 (Average)
I really liked this game. Just because it got an “Average†doesn’t mean you shouldn’t play it; in fact, I may have been a little harsh. Definetly worth playing in the RGR.
