Most people, like to be scared, not the oh my G-d I'm going to die, type of scared, but the Halloween type scared. So it only makes sense that so many people enjoy the horror genre. However. now-a-days, most American horror is remade by horror from other countries, and while other countries such as Italy, Spain and other 'Western' countries have some decent horror, I feel the best comes from 'Eastern' countries, such as Japan and Korea.

Now, I'd like to know. Do you agree with me about the 'Eastern' horror, such as Ju-on (Movie The Grudge was based on), Or Ringu (Movie The Ring was based on), as well as lesser known ones like The Red Shoes, or A Tale of Two Sisters.

Or do you prefer the movies with psycho slashers that have been done for years? Freddy,or Micheal, or the twisted killings of Jig Saw? Maybe even the cruel story behind PumpkinHead? Or the viscousness of The Last House of the Left? Oh and lets not forget Norman Bates!

Anyway, My point is, I love all Horror but I think the best stuff comes from the East.

Tell me what you think!

I don't know if I could pick... I like both types... they scare me in different ways and I like that. Gives some variety.

I love horror movies but I think I have to agree with Namrea.... the Eastern stuff is more psychological in a lot of ways than the western stuff.... Western style depends too much on special effects in my opinion and less on story. Scares you more with gore than anything. They're both fun to watch in their own ways....

However, I find that if you delve into the horror genre too much you end up finding some REALLY screwed up stuff.... from both sides.

geeogree : Jacob's Ladder is a fantastic example of psychological horror from western filmakers.

Personally, I really don't like Eastern horror films since I'm much more into the British Hammer Horror and Amicus style horror films. And a fan of the Mario Bava slasher films of the 60's.

American horror trends more into remakes for a quick buck, while others try to cash in into the whole "slasher in a certain area/it's all in the mind/torture porn" flicks which is a reason why I'm not a big fan of Saw or Friday the 13th.

I'm much of a fan of horror films like The Invisible Man, Halloween, or Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the 78 one)

Japanese horror films are a lot better than western one in fact most of the really good horror come from the land of the rising sun the grudge the ring series. The western horror lack a sense of atmosphere compared to the japanese ones.

I'm more into western horror. Mostly because I'm more familiar with it. Plus the eastern films I've seen like the grudge for example are a little cheesy for me. I do like a couple British horror films. Maybe they count as eastern.
