The third post in that thread is the long way. In case you want to try the short way, then look at this:

To end a item event, once you get one. Here's how:

1. On event commands, activate the item or whatever that you want to get.
2. Create a new event page. (You should know how).
3. On that second page, look under "event conditions" and you will see the item box or whatever. Select the item that you have activated on your first page to the event conditions part of the page.

How things would run?

When you get the item on the first event page. The event condition will automatically know that and trasfer you to the second page. Then you can end the event or whatever there without using them dumb switches. Take note that this event also works for getting characters and the timer or whatever. I hope I didn't miss anything, however, showing you a simple way in case it comes to an item event or somthing.
