Hello everyone, I'm back with a review of Nekopara Vol.4, or NEKO Para Vol. 4 (the name in the Nintendo Switch UI). I recently got the game on sale, as you can imagine, I got the game on sale just to have something else to review, being someone who bought the previous Nekopara games only for review purposes...As you probably know, I wrote a review of Nekopara Vol.3 a year ago or something like that, I said that if I ever write a review of Nekopara Vol.4 it won't be until October 2022 at least...well, many months later, here I am. Something I have to admit is that Nekopara Vol.4 is actually the best game in the series, that's not saying much, but considering the fact that I'm not a Nekopara fan, I can still say for sure that Nekopara Vol.4 is the best Nekopara game. I have a lot to say about this game, another game rated M, heh heh...let's begin.

Story: Defintely the best story of the Nekopara games. Nekopara Vol.4 is still a comedy, but the story here is even more moving or emotional than the previous games and, using the words of the review of Noisy Pixel, the game has a few emotional story beats, some parts of the game almost made me cry or shed a tear, and considering that I'm not a Nekopara fan and I don't care about the Nekopara characters (that much I guess), the fact that the game almost made me cry more than once is something I can respect, I have to give credit where credit is due. The story revolves around Kashou seeking the approval of his father, he desperately tries to make cakes that are even more delicous but his craft is suffering as a result, so, he then goes to France to seek advice from his mentor, Beignet, the person who taught him everything he knows. The game has at least one unexpected revelation, and the comedy or humor is very funny as always, Nekopara Vol.4 made me laugh out loud more than once, mostly because of Shigure and Cinnamon. Overall, a great story that wants to make you see what happens next, at least the first time you ''play'' the game (it's a visual novel as we already know).

Graphics: Nekopara Vol.4 is the best looking game of the franchise. Even in 720p (or HD) it's noticeable that the character designs and 2D art look amazing, the graphics look better than ever and the 2D art looks even more refined and detailed, even if you play the game in 720p...yes, I'm not just talking about playing the game in handheld mode, the game also looks amazing in 720p docked or using a TV. The characters are animated like in the previous games, those animations are a nice touch and the characters are very expressive as always. The UI is recycled or at least pretty much the same, it's obvious that the UI hasn't changed throughout the series, but everything else looks great and as I said, Nekopara Vol.4 looks better than the previous games...the CG images look beautiful, and I like the use of chibi designs for some scenes...a visual novel that looks amazing...

Sound: Better than the previous games...a little. A lot of the songs are recycled (meh...), but the game has more new songs compared to previous games, and the new music sounds nice. There is some french and japanese influence in the new music (a few songs at least), and I like it more or less...that said, the music is still something that doesn't stand out for the most part, I've said several times that even for visual novels, the music of Nekopara is unremarkable in my opinion and I also think that there are other games with better music, the music isn't bad of course, but overall, the soundtrack is acceptable and fitting for the game, something like that. I also don't like the fact that the game only has Japanese voices...the anime is officially dubbed into English! Vanilla is voiced by Natalie (Rose) Hoover no less...but this is about Nekopara Vol.4, not the anime I haven't watched (I don't plan to watch the anime)...the voice acting is great at times...I guess? I mean, the game has emotional moments and the emotion can clearly be heard during those scenes maybe, but in any case...I would like English voices, but that won't happen. As always, I silenced Cinnamon, that said, I don't have a problem with the voices of other characters, the other characters have fitting voices and don't sound annoying, at least that's what I would say...overall, the game is better than the other games when it comes to sound...more music, better voice acting (I guess?), and good sound effects that are sometimes funny or cartoony. A 6/10 or a 7/10 at best is fine for this category.

Addictive: Another kinetic visual novel without choices, that said, Nekopara Vol.4 has a better story than the other games, with great writing, the story is something that makes you see what happens next, in the end, it's easier for me to play Nekopara more than once compared to the other games...it's still a game that only has one ending and as a kinetic visual novel, there aren't any choices to make in the game...even so, I would say that the game is on par with Xblaze Code: Embryo or something like that, and yes...that's not saying much, but coming from me, that's a lot of praise. In my opinion, Nekopara Vol.4 is okay and there are many, many that are better in my opinion, I'd rather play Knack than Nekopara Vol.4 just to give one of many examples...in any case, I can admit that Nekopara Vol.4 is the best Nekopara game, and because of that, it's more ''addictive'' than the other games in the franchise...not bad I guess...

Depth: At least 6 or 7 hours to finish the game, 10 or 11 hours at most or something like that, It's longer than other Nekopara games but that's not saying much, and it has less unlockable content than the other games, especially Nekopara Vol.1 and Nekopara Vol.2 (yes, the unlockable stories Nekopara Vol.0 and Nekopara Extra)...5/10 is fine.

Difficulty: A blank space is fine for this category as always, considering the fact that it's a kinetic visual novel...

As I already said, Nekopara Vol.4 is the best Nekopara game, as you can probably imagine, I can't give the game a higher rating because of my taste in games, this review sounds kind of positive, I know, but I gave the game a 6/10, you can be sure that I would give the game a higher age rating if I could, it's a 6/10 from me, but I can say that this game should be amazing if you are a Nekopara fan or are a fan of visual novels unlike me. The PC version should be better or more believable...there is some fanservice, yes, but there is at least one specific scene where a sex scene would make sense and it would be justified by context but in the Nintendo Switch version, we only hear and see characters kissing...come on, you can't tell me that in a situation like that, the characters would want to do ''hardcore things'' instead of just kissing each other...I'll admit that it took me a little out of the experience...I don't know if I'm willing to recommend the Nekopara games for Nintendo Switch considering the lack of sex scenes, in this game, those scenes probably make the game more believable at least once, more than the other games I'd say...if you are interested in Nekopara Vol.4, well, play the previous games first, don't play Nekopara Vol.4 if you haven't played the previous games...if you are interested in the sex scenes, the scenes that should be the main reason why most people would want to play this game in the first place...get the PC version, if you somehow are interested in this game but aren't interested in the sex scenes or whatever...I recommend the game if it's on sale I think...I'm trying to be positive here, I really think that Nekopara Vol.4 suffers more than the other games if you remove the explicit content, it really feels like a game where the difference in content hurts the story or experience a little...if you play the game you should understand, and maybe other people would agree with me. In any case, the great story or good writing, the graphics/beautiful 2D art, the music (more or less), the humor...it's an enjoyable visual novel, and there are only a few errors in the game (''Then again, if that were to happen, I would gladly follow him to the the ends of the earth.''), it defintely has a few flaws, but at the end of the day, it's more enjoyable than other games in the genre. The dialogue can be interesting or unexpected, at least when it comes to translations (''How's it going? How's it hanging? What's the happs?'')...I don't know, not all the translations are good I would say, but...it's still a game I don't regret playing...this should be my last review of a Nekopara game...at least in a long time, I don't know if there will be a Nekopara Vol.5 someday, honestly, we don't need a Nekopara Vol.5, the series has fulfilled its potential with this game, it's the best Nekopara game and I'm a little impressed with Nekopara Vol.4, NEKO WORKs did a great job with Nekopara Vol.4 and the game is a satisfying conclusion, I could describe the game as ''climatic'' or...whatever...I don't have a problem if this is the last Nekopara game...for now, that's all...see you next time.
