So, here's the thing, I really wish that the ClueFinders had taken off like Carmen Sandiego did because they made some really good games, which I have played all of, heck it should have gotten a tv series, or a book series (that's done in the same format as the Babysitters Club, because sure why not, well it did get a choose your own adventure book) heck the Real World Adventure Kit Joni has Journal entries that make it look like that we were going to make a movie with that premise, well 2001 was kind of the last year they were super active with their own content (and by their own content I mean the Cluefinders and Reader Rabbit).
Gameplay and Story: The ClueFinders are on a Cable Car (yep they are based in California apparently as suggest in another game where a meteor crashed in the Sierra Nevadas) travelling to a new toy store that has just opened and they are anticipating what they will see (the same way I feel when I travel to a second hand book store) when they arrive, Owen realizes he left his Wallet in the cable car, but as Joni follows him they suddenly get shrunk inside the cable car and they are taken inside the store, both teams of two (including Laptrap's new sidekick Alley-trap). While Joni and Owen are trapped on one floor, Santiago and Leslie use an elevator to travel to different floors of the store to find single parts for the unshrinking device.
Graphics: well the main characters are 2D animated of course, but I don't think I have ever noticed ANY CGI in the games, probably wasn't enough money in the budget though.
Sound: Well the first thing you will notice in this game is that everyone except for Laptrap has been recast. Other than that I can't even remember the background music but then again I haven't played this enough to have it memorized.
Addictive: I played these in parts and I found some things difficult, but I eventually found my footing with it. To be honest all of the educational games I have either played or owned are quite addictive I spent so many hours playing them (but that was back in the days when I had an internet-less Windows 95, yep I'm an old fogie that remembers a time when I had fun without the internet and I might be the last of a breed, the last of us as it were (yeah, went there).
Depth: Well I have yet to play this game in one whole sitting so I can't say how big this is considering that when I played this in 7 parts, there are under ten activities which involves elevators, gumballs, junk yards, a board with involving Alcatratz, and so on, I plan on doing a full playing of this this summer though so stay tuned for that, hopefully by then the video posting problems will be fixed.
Difficulty: this game is aimed at 3rd to 4th graders (yeah rather than aim it at a certain age group they aim it at a certain GRADE group) even though they have made games for those grade levels (which I will review eventually). But it's supposed to be an educational game it shouldn't be this difficult.
Overall: Well it's a shame the Tour De Vizzed Winter edition wraps up today because I found these reviews a good way to make wordy comments or threads here, but don't think this is the end of my reviews, I will be back on July 1st (when the gaming season will start....actually when gaming season starts for me will depend on when the Jets are done for the season, because I don't like to mix them both at once actually it depends on that and when I finish the first of my Game show Carmen binge watches) Other than that, I'm sorry that I didn't get to play this game when I was younger (this and Mystery Mansion arcade slipped past me) because the ClueFinders are awesome.
I give this game a 9. Stay tuned next time when I review Cluefinders Search and Solve adventures
