I'm asking because my end of the planet is still under code red where non-essential businesses aren't open (which sadly includes a local arcade) and I'm wonder if any arcades are still exist on everyone elses end?

See I'm a 90s kid I'm old enough to remember a few things, I'm old enough to remember when they used to have arcade games at 7-11 and at hotels, I'm old enough to remember when Alex Trebek had a mustache, I'm old enough to remember when Arthur premiered on PBS, etc.

Granted I'm not just talking about video game areas that still exist in movie theaters (I know there are some theaters that still do have arcade games, heck my closest movie theater has some games one of them being Daytona USA) and

So what about on my end, on it's own? There is, at the Forks, it's called Phantom Amusements, A majority of the games there are modern pinball machines (and I'm happy to say that Aerosmith has dipped their feet in both the arcade and pinball machines, not to mention the slots but that's for another day) I spent alot of times on the Stranger Things machine, I even won a free game. The place even has a DDR game, and it has more well not recent hits but different songs in there, I knew the second I first heard Cascada's Everytime We Touch that I would hear it on a DDR game one day because it feels like something that it should be in that game. Of course I played it though.

So are arcades still around on your end?

wow, we're both from Winnipeg, what a small world this is. Thank god for sites like this or we would go stir crazy, even though there's no way we can play pinball machines online, I would have killed to have played Tee'd Off again or the South Park machine, heck even the Simpsons got into the Pinball industry

If there were any where I live, they probably would have been open because our 2nd/3rd lockdown was only like for indoor dining and schools, not much else. But unfortunately, I don't recall actually seeing any arcades in my area in a long time. I don't know if they went out of business or they moved or if something else happened to them.

I haven't been to one in a really long time though anyway.

We have an arcade in town but I've never actually went I think it was called planet 14 or something funny cause it's my favorite number and I've had the chance to go a year or two back and just chose not to.

I have one in my mall, but it's so expensive to buy tokens there, so I don't really go. It would be nice to have a local one that isn't so pricey, but I get why.

Jellyfishcat : hmm I'm surprised that most arcades don't switch to a token or points card, the silver city cineplex's switched to the card a long time ago and I bought one just for kicks one time because I had to wait for my mother to finish doing a thing there

I didn't mention this when I started the thread because I was aiming more towards standalone arcades that weren't connected to movie theaters, malls are okay though

classgame : Oh true, sorry about that. Well, there was one in Pittsburg I was going to visit which is called Pinball Arcade. I haven't had the chance to go, but that place looks like nostalgia right there. That would be amazing. Sure it's probably not the biggest arcade, but it's standalone set apart from a mall.

Yes actually there is an arcade place still in the next city near me, and while it's been closed down due to covid they are finally getting revenue again and it's good since I think they were about to close down for good. But tokens are a pain!! Though I can't wait to start getting back into DDR.

well Phantom Amusements is open again, I'll get there when I get there, in the meantime, I shall get my fingers exercises in place (if the Tour de Vizzed is still happening this summer)

The only arcades I have around me are the one inside the dentist's office I used to go to, and this one restaurant that's video game themed. Oh, and the actual full arcade near my house. My favorite one is the restaurant because it has good food and I can stay there for hours playing Ms. Pac-Man and the stuff I've grown up with!

It's funny that you should mention that, because I once was inside a dentist office once that actually did have an arcade machine, it's how first saw Kiwi Kraze (or the New Zealand Story) for the first time man Christmas 98 was something to crow about.

So today I finally made a long overdue trip to The Forks (because the temps were at a comfortable level despite the haze in the air, and it's supposed to get hot again at the end of the week enough that it would make me want to stay in.), and yes I did spend a little time at Phantom Amusements, and they've expanded a little, I guess they did the right thing moving that DDR machine as there was more room for a Marvel Heroes game and a players choice game, there was also room for three vintage games, I guess the Addams Family machine is super popular because there isn't a place where I haven't seen that machine (except in Grand Forks, I've never seen it there) oh that reminds me, I wonder if Fun Mountain still has an arcade there (well I haven't been there in over a decade, thing is I don't think I'll go to Fun Mountain until they change ownership.

One of their vintage games is Getaway, and I brought up in one of my recent reviews that one of the pinball games I remembered had a police light on top, the type that used to be on top of Police cars before they switched to LED everything. The game I played was Getaway and it could have been one of the games that was at the old Holiday Inn in Grand Forks.

So how have they been able to stay in business all this time when everything had to be closed for Code Red restrictions? they rented out the pinball games!
