Hello everyone, this is my first review in a while. This review is a little late but anyway. This time, it's a review of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1, and oh wow...I have a lot to say about this game, both good things and bad things. Let's skip the usual comments about fan service and whatnot, I mean, this is a Hyperdimension Neptunia game, of course the game contains suggestive content and dialogue...Let's begin...

Story: For its time, the story of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 (and, as such, the original Hyperdimension Neptunia for PS3) was great and unique, several years later, the story is still somewhat unique and it's still a great story, more or less. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 is an allegory of the video game industry, even more so than the other games, with references to a ''Console War'', four different nations ruled by four goddesses, and all that stuff. The story is based on the story of the original Hyperdimension Neptunia, with some differences, including the fact that the CPUs actually help Neptune throughout the game. Because this is a Hyperdimension Neptunia game, there are a lot of funny moments in the game, and while I wouldn't say that the story is engaging in the sense that it makes you say ''I want to see what happens next!'' I can't say that the story about a ''Console War'', Neptune falling from the sky again (you know, the world of Celestia), and charming characters including the main character herself isn't enjoyable, it's a fun story. I won't say more, and besides...this is going to be one of the more positive sections of this review...

Graphics: This PC version of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 was the first game for PC published by Idea Factory International, IFI has published many games for PC during these several years, and this game was the first game for PC published by that company. This game is just a PC Port of the original Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 for PS Vita, and it shows...The game has graphics that are okay at best. Oh, sure, Tsunako's art is as beautiful as always, but when you have a PC game that for the most part looks like something that could run on a Playstation 2 or Gamecube, it's really evident that it's a game that doesn't look that good, the PC version of Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus looks better than this, and to be honest, it's obvious. Yes, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 runs better than Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus on PC, at least, it runs better in the sense that it runs at 30 frames per second often, the framerate might be more consistent than in Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus on PC, but even though it's a game with graphics that leave something to be desired, the game suffers from slowdown...the slowdown can be annoying, to be honest. Overall, the game only looks slightly better than the Hyperdimension Neptunia games on PS Vita I guess, at the end of the day, even though I'm a huge fan of Tsunako's art style, this is still a game that deserves a 6 for this category. I like that I can play this game in fullscreen and it's a playable experience, unlike Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus, but...I guess that's because it looks worse than every Senran Kagura game for PC...In any case, pretty much every PC with Windows 7 (at least) should be able to run this game...that's good, I suppose...

Sound: Not only we have recycled music again, we also have the fact that there is less music in this game than in other Hyperdimension Neptunia games! Those are the reasons why I'm giving this category a lower number than other Hyperdimension Neptunia games, there are several recycled themes, yes, but when you play this game, you WILL be listening to the same music over and over again, and I'm not only talking about the normal battle theme here, this game only has three dungeon themes, ''Prehistoric Cave'', ''Between Earth and Sky'' and ''The World of Imagination'', those are recycled from Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory, which is already bad, but, as I said, Those are the only dungeon themes in the game, that's not all, ''The World of Imagination'' is usually used in optional areas or dungeons, areas that can be ignored if you want because for the most part those dungeons aren't directly related with the story, and what does all of this mean? You will mainly be listening to ''Prehistoric Cave'' and ''Between Earth and Sky'' over and over again, those two songs are enjoyable to listen to, but I got to a point where I was a little tired of listening to those two themes, and that's without mentioning that the use of ''Prehistoric Cave'' in the last dungeon is an example of ''Soundtrack Dissonance''...that music is EXTREMELY unfitting for the world of Celestia, and the use of ''Criminal Attack'' (a great boss theme, in my opinion) for the first form of the final boss is more or less unfitting, maybe not unfitting for Arfoire, especially at the end of the game, but unfitting considering the location, the use of an intense boss theme with electric guitar, violins and drums is unfitting because the fight is taking place in the world of Celestia, and in Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1, Celestia is a beautiful world with floating islands, rainbow roads and some nature (somehow, there are trees and whatnot in Celestia), that great but intense boss theme doesn't fit with the area...I say all this because in my experience, ''Soundtrack Dissonance'' in video games or, in other words, video game music that really makes you say ''wait, this music doesn't fit'' is something extremely rare, usually the music used in video games is fitting for the situation, location, or context, and when it's obviously unfitting, it can be very jarring. Overall, when it comes to music, the game has a good but repetitive soundtrack, and some original songs are pretty good, the soundtrack is great at times but it's also brought down by the recycled music and the repetitiveness of the music, at least in the sense that the same dungeon themes (for example) are used over and over again...because the game just doesn't have a lot of music, more or less. The voice acting is usually great, the characters have fitting voices and the acting is pretty good for the most part, I don't want to say this, but without any doubt, the worst actress in the game is Erin Fitzgerald, a lot of her lines weren't delivered well and the acting sounded flat, forced or stilted, clearly she gave the worst performance in the game, that said, all the other actresses did a great job and they sound great as their respective characters. Neptune (Melissa Fahn), Compa (Cristina Valenzuela), Arfoire (Laura Post), MAGES. (Amanda Celine Miller)...all the other characters sound great.

Addictive: Hyperdimension Neptuna Re;Birth1 uses the same gameplay and mechanics as Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory and also, the other Re;Birth games, and honestly...it's even worse here, at least compared to Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2: Sisters Generation. You have a lot of playable characters, during combat you can move around a battlefield and use different types of attacks, you can use items, special skills that require SP, and you can try to run away during a normal battle, the Remake System also appears in this game, and you can use plans to add more features, unlock dungeons, get new equipment, etc. The thing with Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 is the fact that it's a very difficult game (more details later) and that it doesn't have a good variety of dungeons, part of the reason why I got tired of listening to the same dungeon themes over and over again is the fact that the game, as I said, doesn't have a good variety of dungeons, in one way or another, you will be going through the same maps over and over again, just with different names and enemies, ''Factory No.459'' is very guilty of this, not only using that map for the first area in the dungeon (again), but also using a slightly different version of that map for the second section of that same dungeon (''Factory No.459 Depths'')...it's very criminal. I can't believe how much this game recycled things, but it's true, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 has better variety of dungeons, and that...is obvious. I won't deny it, the game can be tedious, it's true that RPGs are repetitive, even more so than other genres, but Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 is repetitive with its dungeons to the point that it can be offensive. The game is fun to play, more or less. and there are moments that are really satisfying and enjoyable, the game has occasional greatness, it's really a shame that the game is less enjoyable than Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 and other Hyperdimension Neptunia games, considering that it's a functional game, I really wanted to like this game, but as it is...It's an inferior experience than other games in the franchise...

Depth: If you are really good, you can probably beat this game in at least 50 hours or something like that, if you want to do everything however, you will have to play this game a lot, you can play Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 for more than 90 hours and still have things to do, the game has multiple endings (I got the normal ending), many optional quests, and many things to unlock.

Difficulty: In my experience with this game, you will need to grind, grinding is REQUIRED in Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1, there are several difficulty spikes in the game and it's not funny, several bosses in the game can be extremely difficult (impossible?) to defeat if your equipment and levels aren't enough, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 also has its difficult bosses or moments, but here? It's ridiculous, the final boss True Arfoire is a difficult boss that took me several tries (5 tries or something), and unless you activate the ''Weaken enemies'' plan combined with the plan ''Super EXE Drive'', you won't stand a chance, I can say that for sure. Believe me, it's ridiculous, the game doesn't have a good balance of difficulty, and if you refuse to use the plan ''Weaken enemies'' like me (at least until the final boss), it can be an extremely difficult game, the game can be unfair to be honest...So, this category is at least a 9...Who had the brilliant idea of putting bosses (and enemies) that recover their HP every time it's their turn? That's something that can also be found in other games, but here it's even worse...

Do I recommend Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1? Only if you are a die-hard fan of the series. This is an enjoyable game, more or less, and the story, music (repetitive use aside), voice acting, and 2D art are great, even if not always. The rest of the elements affect the experience, the high and ridiculous difficulty, the recycled dungeons and use of the same maps over and over again, the graphics that don't look that good, the occasional errors in the script (typos and, more than anything else, messages or quotes that are not fully displayed. Seriously, that looks very bad...), the slowdown...it's a mess of a game. Even so, I had some fun with Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 and I recommend it if you can get it cheap. For Mexicans like me, this game costs less than $200 Mexican pesos, the game costs $154.99 to be exact, that price tag is around $7 dollars, with a price like that, it's worth it in my opinion. I mean, it's true, depending on the region, you can get the PC version of this game with a great price tag, that said, I don't recommend this game if it costs more than $20 US dollars, something equivalent to that, and you should say ''no'' if you ask me. Only buy this game if it's cheap (something equivalent to $20 dollars or less) and if you have already played other Hyperdimension Neptunia games, do not play this game if you have never played a Hyperdimension Neptunia game before, this one isn't a good entry point...
