So, I don't know if I'll get a reply considering that this is a small forum and all, but yeah, I though this was interesting. In video games, usually the final boss theme or music used in a final battle is an amazing or awesome theme, often, the music used in the final battle is the best music in the game depending on who you ask. But sometimes, in my experience, the music used for the final boss isn't great for some reason, we are talking about final boss themes that made me say ''the final boss theme could have been better...''
I can think of a few examples, now, I'm not saying that these final boss themes are bad, I'm just saying that, for a final battle or considering the context or situation when these songs are used, the music isn't very good, at times, it's not that the music isn't fitting for a final battle, it's just that...the music isn't good, these final boss themes are okay or something like that, at least...in my opinion.
''Goddess Wars'' from MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fY0jJt1zEOw This final boss theme is fitting for the fight against Gagarin, the main antagonist of the game, but overall...it's just a final boss theme that works, it's enjoyable to listen to and not much else, even with the choir, it's not a great final boss theme, and in fact, it's one of my least favorite songs in MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death, ''Battle of the Twelves'' and ''Battle of the Guardians'' are better boss themes in the same game, even though ''Battle of the Guardians'' is perhaps more repetitive than ''Goddess Wars'', I still think that it's a better theme, somehow... Is ''Goddess Wars'' really the final boss theme of a game whose soundtrack was composed by Tenpei Sato and Satoshi Kadokura?
''Bloodstained Soldier'' from Mary Skelter 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzaeDMgBEfQ The fact that part of this theme is based on the first normal battle theme in the first game (Soldier of the Wind) is a nice touch, but even though ''Bloodstained Soldier'' is a final boss theme with electric guitar, violin, and piano, it's not a great final boss theme. It works for the final battle and it's more or less fitting for the difficult fight, but as a final boss theme, even with the different instruments and choir, this music is just...eh. The fact that it's a short final boss theme that loops often doesn't help...the original game has a much better final boss theme, ''Seigi Wo Kazasu Kamigami No Utage''/''Divine Banquet Holding Justice'' is
much better, that's for sure...
''Montana Max Battle'' from Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRMgg6G1JMw The music used in the factory is great to this day, what happened here? I'll let this music speak for itself...
''The Twisted Beings'' from YIIK: A Postmodern RPG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhHUeEYVqxs Unlike the previous 3 games, I haven't played YIIK and I won't play it, however, I've seen pretty much every event and boss battle in the game thanks to 2 playthroughs on Youtube, I can say for sure that this music really is the final boss theme, and...I can't deny that it sounds kind of cool, I really like the first 18 seconds and I really like how the music briefly gets faster, however, the music itself is really disorganized, and that's probably part of the reason why it's not the most enjoyable music to listen to, it sounds kind of nice, and maybe, it works as a final boss theme, more or less, but considering that this is the same game that has ''Battle with Uzu'', ''Years to Come'' and ''A Distant Voice/Chance Traveller'', for example...yeah, the final boss theme could have been better, YIIK has amazing music at times, more or less. We shouldn't forget that music is used in a fight that you can't even win...Is this music fitting for a fight like that? Well...probably.
So...what are other final boss themes that you think are underwhelming and/or could have been much better?
