I have never seen The Shining and I never want to, too scary. In fact the only things I know about The Shining was from memes and from Ready Player One. But the trailer for Doctor Sleep really made me super interested and I knew I had to see it.
I ended up really liking everything about it, the acting, the thrills and drama, and especially the music. The film seemed to be a lot longer than it was becauss of how much stuff was crammed into it and I didn't mind at all.
In my eyes, the best part of Doctor Sleep was the acting. Rebecca Ferguson put on an amazing show as the villain and everyone else had incredible performances, especially Ewan McGregor as Danny and Jacob Tremblay as baseball boy. McGregor did a great job at showcasing a large array of personalities, emotions, and character development throughout the film. Tremblay only had a couple quick scenes but one of them was probably the most disturbing scene in the film.
The next best aspect about Doctor Sleep for me was the music, which really worked with the tone. The constant "doon doon" really signaled that something was about to go down or made a scene much more intense. It was also nice hearing the famous Shining tunes once or twice throughout.
Overall, there were lots of scenes that I thoroughly enjoyed, especially the ones in the forest and the ones in the hotel as they were super dramatic and sometimes chaotic. It wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be and it looks like there was a lot more effort put into the story and drama rather than scared, kind of like what happened with IT. Overall, my grade for Doctor Sleep is going to be a 92 out of 100.
