When I was first told that Minecraft was going to have other kinds of games, I wasn't that big of a fan of the idea, so I never really picked up Minecraft Story mode until about a few months ago but even then I never bothered to play it until recently. Even then, it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be, but overall it was a pretty good game for Minecraft, especially considering that it was only like $5.

In Minecraft Story Mode you play as Jessie in the world of Minecraft. In this world it's played out as regular people living out their lives. As for the story, there's too much to explain because like all Telltale Games Games, it's an episodic adventure and also a choose your own adventure type of game. Right at the start of the game, after playing for like 20 minutes, there's a series of choices that seriously affect what happens next and what happens after that and so on. You might think that the choice you picked was right or crazy and then you hear about the other paths and realize you might have been wrong.

GRAPHICS: 8/10

The graphics look just like you would expect from a Minecraft game. It's all blocky but the animation in this game is a not smoother than what you would expect from the OG game, kind of resembling what you would see in those Minecraft movies that used to plague YouTube. This version of the game gives the Minecraft world a more realistic and even friendly look.

SOUND: 9/10

The sound of Minecraft Story Mode isn't too bad. Regular Minecraft has some great songs that get stuck in your head and some creepy sounds, and Story Mode isn't too far from those. Some of the music that plays throughout the game will be calm and relaxing while in some parts it will send chills down your spine based on the environment. There's also voice acting from many of the characters (including a pig, who is played by one of the more famous voice actors of our time). The regular sounds of the game are also what you would expect from Minecraft. You're going to hear creepers and skeletons, and everything about Minecraft that ever so slightly freaks you out at night.

ADDICTIVENESS: 6/10

The only problem that I have with Minecraft Story Mode is the fact that if you want to go back and see what all the other options of the choose your own adventure aspect lead to, you have to play from the beginning and do everything all over. Playing the game and seeing the story unfold is fun and it would be cool to go back and see what other actions would cause, but you'd have to be very patient and play for a lot longer than you're willing to play.

After playing for the 1st few hours, I was curious in what my actions caused but there was no way i was going to play everything over again, not worth it IMO.

DEPTH: 6/10

There isn't really a lot when it comes to the game. The game is very long with lots of plot content, lots of dialogue, and lots of cut scenes but that's all there is to it. There's no open world or even a world to begin with because each area you're in is very small and limited in what you can do. The only thing that really adds to depth in Story Mode is the large number of choices and alternate storylines but that's about it.

DIFFICULTY: 2

This is one of the easiest games that I have ever played. Minecraft is a really easy game unless you're playing on Hardcore Mode and Story Mode is even easier. The game practically holds your hand. Most of the game is cut scenes and when there is an action or an attack, the button you need to press shows up on the screen and will usually give you more than enough time to press it. All that's left are pretty simple puzzles where you walk around the area and investigate objects and people, that's all there is to it.

OVERALL: 7.8/10

Overall Minecraft Story Mode is a pretty decent game. Most of the good aspects of the game are the story and the Minecraft elements like the sound and look. Everything else like the depth and the amount of things that you can do is kind of a let down. But as you're playing the game, you're having fun and all the episodes can lead to hours of gameplay. Let's not forget that the game is also incredibly cheap. My overall grade for Minecraft Story Mode is going to be 7.8 out of 10.

I am not really a fan of minecraft story mode since a lot of the time I feel like your decisions don't hold much weight in the grand scheme of things. Thank you for writing the review though!
