Cave Story is a wonderful adventure romp. The story and atmosphere are great, as well as the exploration. But it's really short, and if I'm being honest, Steamworld Dig 2 is a much nicer experience. Unfortunately, playing the original is recommended for story purposes.

I don't know much about the other two, but I'd probably rather pick The End is Nigh.
