Resident Evil: Director's Cut Review
Resident Evil has always been one of those games series where I sit and wonder, how in the world did it get as popular as it is? Don't get me wrong the games are good, and definitely deserve some praise. However, I could never find my way around the horrible acting scenes, the clunky moving controls and awful dialogue to really take the game seriously. Again this doesn't mean that I did not enjoy the games, I did they where a lot of fun once I could get use to how the characters moved. A big misconception about this game is that it was the first survival horror games to be created, it isn't although I'm not entirely sure what game in the genre came first but I do know that Alone in the Dark was before Resident Evil.

Anyway, back to the topic Resident Evil I rated this game an 8.7 where this game lacks it makes up for it with it's fun and challenging puzzles and storyline which I found very interesting, not the greatest story I have heard in a video game mind you but a good one nonetheless. And I would like to point out that for me there was just a few things that made this game lack, and there are a few things that I felt could have made this game a whole lot better than what it was. For starters, smarter zombie A.I.'s the zombies are easily avoidable in this game for the most part, sure maybe a few here and there you will need to kill to progress onward but the rest you can easily just dodge around and continue on. I actually feel like I am wasting ammo when killing a zombie in this game because of this. Another thing would definitely have to be better acting, if you have seen the cut scenes in this game you know what I am talking about....-cough cough- Berry -cough cough-

As for the graphics, they were pretty standard for the PlayStation's time they were not bad but not the greatest I have ever seen on the system so I rated them a 5. I felt that the graphics could have been upped quite a bit and made to look a lot better. However, everything still looks pretty good things a identifiable and to me that is very important if I can't tell that a door is a door then we have a problem because I am just going to keep walking past it every time. As for the character models, things are a bit different I think that the models look fantastic for the PlayStation era, best I have seen in my personal opinion on the system. Legs and arms are more defined and not very blocky or unshapely like in Final Fantasy VII.

The sounds of the game to be totally and completely honest didn't impress me very much, there was no music that caught my attention some of the in game sounds got kind of annoying after hearing them for the millionth time and the zombies moaning and grunting noises got kind of old. So I rated the sound a 5. As for the addictiveness I rated the game an 8, it was a very good game despite it's flaws. But think about it, what games doesn't have flaws? I would definitely pick this game back up again if I had it, and a PlayStation again for that matter. I remember when I first played it, honestly I hated it I couldn't figure out the controls, but then I was young and tried it again when I was a little older and had a way different opinion yeah the movement still sucked but it wasn't by any means a bad game.

Now onward to my favorite part of any review, the story for this game I rated the story an 8. This game had a great storyline to me. However, I felt that it was one of those story's that is in almost every zombie type game where your number one goal is like always to survive. But Resident Evil did it a little differently, for the whole zombie outbreak is not caused by some kind of radioactivity or witch doctor or something like that but rather a man creates a virus that infects the dead. How interesting? Because now we have gone from walking dead scary to biological walking dead scary. As you progress through the game you will find things like files and diaries that you can read that helps to explain the story a little better and I personally think that it adds more depth to the game. Going off topic a little, Bioshock did the same idea but with radio diaries to help better understand the story (my favorite survival horror game series). Anyway, Chris and his team were sent to find out who is causing a string of bizarre murders in Raccoon City what they find is a mansion full of zombies and a few dead members of Bravo team who was sent before them and an annoying teenager Rebecca who tries to help you out but fails miserably at the piano. However, things begin to pick up from there when you start to discover that the rest of your team is now missing and you must find them. One thing leads to another and soon everything becomes twisted and out of control. I know this story retelling was a little vague, but I'm trying not to put any spoilers but still give the full effect of the story so I'm sorry if this sounds kind of bad.

As for depth and difficulty I rated them both a 7. The game is about as long as a standard PlayStation game, so maybe a few hours into the game and you will be at the end and to my knowledge I don't remember to much hidden items in the game aside from herbs and clips and shells but the puzzles add a whole new dimension to the game. They can be quite complicated to solve, but when you do figure them out they are very worth it most you have to solve to progress through the game. As for the difficulty you are given three choices normal, training and advanced. Normal would be the same difficulty as the first Resident Evil (the non-director's cut), training is for the beginners and of course advanced is hard and for more experienced players, however they are not to difficult until you progress further in the game. It is all fairly beatable, the bosses being probably the most difficult thing to actually kill, well those and some of the hyper zombies if you are not given enough room.

 And to add this in there was a mode called "arrange mode" which changes or gives a little switcharoo to the game. for example, original mode: wesker shoots bees arrange mode: wesker shoots big spider XD

 this response is really late but thanks arouguespirit and yes I did watch a lot of RE walkthroughs and I did notice that whenever you shoot a hunter in the head with a grenade launcher or with a shotgun there is pretty much a lot of gore than the original

 the original game was tweaked so that the game was easier. Director's cut brought back the difficulty from the japanese version along with a few of the japanese soundtracks.
