Pinball MadNES Pacman+Mariofan
Review PreviewHey, vizzed members! I’m Pac and today I’m reviewing a should-sound-at-least-a-little-bit-familiar game called Pinball for the NES. Today, at long last, breaks my huge streak of reviewing nothing but Pac-Man games (I’m called Pac for a reason, yo). Enjoy the review and don’t be shy to give constructive criticism! I greatly appreciate it. It helps me make more fun-to-read reviews for you guys.
SOUND EFFECTS
10/10I rated this a 10 because every sound is fun to hear, especially when the ball goes really fast and keeps hitting everything over and over! I struggled to pick a favorite sound effect since I love all of them a lot. But my favorite is the pause sound effect. It’s the same one as another NES game! Any guesses as to what that is? …No? OK, it’s Mario Bros! Yes,
the original Mario Bros, copyright Nintendo. (At least I think so, my memory isn't too great)
MUSIC
10/10I rated this a 10 because the title screen theme has me jamming to it every time in my chair. Yes, it actually does have me doing that, don’t question it. There aren’t any more themes, but for a basic Pinball game like this one, you shouldn’t have excessive music. It would ruin the gameplay. Even not having a game over theme is perfectly fine here in my opinion.
GRAPHICS
10/10I rated this a 10 because, WAHOO! these graphics are cool all throughout. A few examples are seals, penguins, cards, and giant pink targets (and an orange one for good measure). There’s even a bonus room with Mario and “some girl”! You know I’m excited about that! (My username has Mario in it for a reason, yo)
ANIMATIONS
10/10I rated this a 10 because all of these animations are fun to watch and I’d watch them more if I didn’t have a high score to set. One of my favorite animations is when the seals are bouncing beach balls. I also like Mario’s running animation when he has to move the platform he’s holding above his head.
My absolute favorite animation, though, is the first one: the spring being activated and, when it’s let go, launching the
ball up the Pinball machine. It reminds me of the old days where I played Pinball on my computer when it had Windows XP.
Normally I take off points in the rating for poor transitions, but games like this shouldn’t be expected to have creative transitions. It’s a simple game with simple transitions, and that’s more than OK with me!
STORY
Who0ps/10Oh, there isn’t a story so maybe I didn’t need to put this section here. But I do that in every review and put some entertaining text there so I had to do that again. :D
DIFFICULTY
2/10I rated this a 2 because once you know the controls, this is easy. All you have to do, aside from the bonus room, is use the paddles at the bottom to hit the ball upwards to keep scoring points. Then, when you miss, the ball falls down to the lower area and there are more opportunities to score points there, with all the cards and targets to hit.
DEPTH
10/10I rated this a 10 because the game has plenty to do for such a simple game. The game contains 4 modes: one player game A, one player game B, 2 player game A, and 2 player game B. The difference between game A and game B is simply that the ball moves faster, creating a larger challenge for the player. It doesn’t work on me though because I almost always score more points in game B!
ADDICTIVENESS
10/10I rated this a 10 because every time I play this game, I don’t grow tired of it. Instead, even if my hands hurt, I want to play it again to see if I can do any better. Plus, I came up with a funny but cool challenge for it: constantly spam the buttons for both paddles and see how many points you get. Funny enough, that’s how I got my personal best high score! XD
OVERALL (not counting story)
8.9/10What a consistent and worthwhile way to pass the time. If only I could buy this game on more devices. Nintendo
would make a fortune off of me! :P I recommend this game to anyone who loves Pinball or just wants an easy-to-learn video game that also gives you a lot to do.
Thank you for reading my review and have a great day!

Pinball-Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Bluey5
Introduction: So much nostalgia here. This is a simple pinball game, the usual. But this one is fun because it has fun little twists that will want to keep you playing until completed! It's a pinball game, but with Nintendo, which makes it so much better. It was created in 1983, and was originally a arcade game. Of course, the game simulates a pinball game, which is what it is. But later in that year, it was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System(NES).
Difficulty:7
Well, this IS a pinball game. Usually pinball games is hard unless you have great reaction times, or if your experienced. This one is pretty easy, but the fact of the rating of the difficulty being a little bit high is because of the bonus games incorporated in with the game. I talk about bonus games below. But really, it isn't all that hard. Just stay on your toes, the ball can move really fast! One tricky thing I had to get used to is that the d-pad on the NES controller is on the left. You use the left flipper with the arrows, which is on the right of the keyboard. I recommend you switch the controls around.
Depth:6
Well, like I said before: this IS a pinball game. That really don't offer that much. But what makes this game special is the few bonus games it has. I mean, I've seen better pinball games, but this one is OK. So you, the player, controls the paddles of this virtual pinball machine. The game has two screens to present the full pinball table, and that one bonus mode. You start by holding the A or B button to launch the ball into the play field with the plunger. It lunches through the bottom screen to the top, which is were you will ultimately start. The only way you can access the bottom screen is if the pinball falls down there. But don't panic! It can go back up to the top screen anytime, if your good enough. So yeah, you control the flippers with the d-pad and the AB buttons. They of course on both screens. The objective of the game is to keep the ball from falling below the bottom screen, which will result in the lost of a ball.
So I promised I was going to talk about the bonus mode so read up! The reason I rated the depth of the game like this is because of this "Breakout" type mode. You can access this mode by flipping you pinball into the upper-left corner of the bottom playing field. It is moderately hard to get to, and it's even harder when you get to it! You, the player, enter a bonus room where Mario is holding a platform. The object of THIS mode is to rescue Pauline, which is somehow trapped up there running side to side like a helpless damsel in distress. This was previously seen in Donkey Kong. You can win this mode by bouncing the pinball off the platform to destroy the targets, which destroys the barrier she is in, all while getting bonus points. When the blocks are gone, she will drop and you have to catch her. If she falls on the ground, you lose. If you catch her you have to help her get to the exits on the left and right of the screen. After that it restarts and you can save her all over again if you have the skill This bonus mode can also end if the pinball goes under the exits, which is an exit for the pinball.
Story:N/A
I didn't want to rate this one because this is just a straight forward type of game. There is no story, and Pauline being trapped is just there so the game can even HAVE a bonus mode. Besides, this would get a VERY low rating, resulting in a low overall rating.
Addictiveness:8
This got an 8 simply because pinball games are a beat-your-own-high score game. So you could play this for hours and days to try to get your highest high score, while you try to see how many times you can save Pauline! You could also make a goal to try to hit every item on the pinball machine, or get every combination on the lottery machine. Almost endless possibilities here!
Sound:7
The only music in this game is on the main menu screen. It is just a collection of sounds on the pinball machine when you hit the objects on the machine. Don't take my word for it, but I THINK there is a song in the bonus room. I can't really remember, and I am not going to try to get up there. It's really that hard sometimes.
Graphics:7
Of course they can be better for an NES game, but it pretty much looks like what a pinball machine would look like, so there should be nothing wrong here.
Overall:7
Personally, I love this game, but this is just a numbers game. I'm pretty sure if you at least TRIED pinball before, you will love this game. Go on, try it! You like it.
So all in all, this is a classic indeed. I've had fun playing this and maybe you will too. This concludes this game review. Thank you so much for your time. Have a nice day.

An old pinball game made in the time of Nintendo's NES development. Stevie 764
Pinball games really dated back to the 50's. You could think that those 50's pinball games were the first games we could play like video games.
Well, the first pinball game ever made on the very successful Nintendo Entertainment System was just called, "Pinball" It was created in 1983 before the system was even developed.
This game was amazing for its time. It was one of those high score games but it was fun and to think that this was one of the many NES launch titles, this game got popular. For a small time period, anyways.
Let's pull the plunger to get the review ball sent to the bumpers labeled as threads on vizzed. :P Needed to make the joke.
------------
Graphics - 7
------------
The graphics do look very cool, for the standards of 8x8 graphic power. The bumpers pop out of the dark background with the blue colored table. The cards are detailed and look decent. Surprisingly, Mario and Princess Pauline appear in the bonus round, but in like, a beta-ish state. Not that true, but Donkey Kong came 3 years before this and that's when Mario, known as Jump-Man in the game appeared and such, wasn't actually Mario.
------------
Sounds - 6
------------
The sounds the ball makes as it hits the flippers and bounces all over the bumpers are good and simulate the fact that you are playing pinball like a real pinball machine. There is music that plays. Only 3 times though:
- Title Screen
- Get all 5 cards unveiled on bottom floor
- Save princess
Lack of music during gameplay, but oh well. Sounds good anyways.
------------------
Addictiveness - 5
------------------
I know it's a game where you simply go for a high score, but you could be seeing how high of a score you can get. The max you can get seems to be 999,990 though. It's simple and not much to see what's next of and I believe that for a pinball game, not sure how often you would sink your time into a game of pinball which
deletes your high score upon reset.
I wonder what happens when you score 100,000 points. :)
-------------
Story - N/A
-------------
Like all pinball games ever made, there really isn't a story. You mainly just shoot a ball with the flippers and score points. There's a princess you can rescue if you go into a bonus round, but that's it.
-----------
Depth - 4
-----------
It has two floors seperated into 2 screens. The former screen has special functions on the board. There's a switch that gives you points, and flashes the screen in white whenever hit, along with increasing in points whenever hit multiple times in a single ball. There's seals on the board that bounce a ball on their nose if you shoot the ball to the left ramp all the way. The latter floor has cards which you can get by getting the ball into the 5 different sections. They appear to be the cards required for a Royal Flush in Poker. There is also an appearance of Mario and apparently the early Princess "Pauline" where if you launch the ball into a bonus hole after hitting 6 switches on the latter floor, you can access a bonus game where you control Mario and have to open the gate the Princess is trapped in by making the colors of one of the three columns the same. Catch her and guide her to one of two exits on the sides, and you can earn (?)3000 points along with be rewarded with nice music. If you don't save her when she's falling... You lose a ball in punishment!? I'm sorry but are you kidding me? That's more of a punishment than a bad ending in a video game, but "Not even close!"
-------------
Difficulty - 4
-------------
The controls are simple to use. The A button shoots the right flipper, and the B button shoots the left flipper. There isn't a tilt feature in this game, so the d-pad isn't used once! The
select button is used only on the title to switch between 1/2 players, and choose between game A and game B.
Anyone on Vizzed know what this means, because I have never noticed anything different. You use the start button to pause, but that's it. It makes the ball go away when pausing, though.
--------------
Overall - 6.7
--------------
Meh, the game is okay. The graphics stand out well with seals and even gives a nice feeling to itself. Pinball games aren't that liked compared to newer games, but this game did get known as a launch title.
-----------
Fun Facts
-----------
This game was made in 1983, and the same year of the infamous video game crash of E.T.
I found some secrets while playing. See if you can spot them.
Lastly, I think this game could have been remade for a slightly newer retro console. Meh, it's good though. ;)

Pinball for the NES review! G@mehe@d
Before I do I this review I would like to point out that if you have a game you want me to review please reply on any of my reviews. You can find them by going to my game index, or if you just happen to see one of my reviews. I will review any game, on any system except computer systems. I hope this will be a convenience and I will reply to your reply as soon as I can because I'm on Vizzed everyday. The game does not have to be popular, because like I said I will review any game you want. You should get your review in about 3-4 days on the average game system. 1 day if it's an Atari 2600 game.Pinball was released as one out the several launch titles for the NES. The game is okay it just need more colors and sounds. In the arcade I always noticed the flashing pinball machines with all the lights and sounds. This version of pinball is the opposite. It lacks colors, making it pretty dull, and where's all of those cool sounds you would hear in a regular pinball machine?GRAPHICS: The graphics are dull and boring but the pinball table looks smooth and the game has an interesting design. Instead of one huge pinball table you got the top part and the bottom part which is unique in it's own way. I still think the game could use more colors and variety.SOUND: Like the graphics the sound isn't anything fancy. A song on the title screen, and some sound effects from the bumpers. That's it pretty much. It would have been nice if there was a song playing in the background while you are playing. That would make the game a bit more exiting.ADDICTIVENESS: The game can get quite addicting at points when you're trying to get an extremely high score but for those that don't play for high scores would not really care for this game. Since the game isn't very exiting I'll tell you that this game is not too addicting.DEPTH: Only one dull pinball table and a bonus stage which is actually quite fun, that's it. Although pinball games aren't supposed to offer a bunch of pinball tables so I'm not going to give the depth rating a 6.DIFFICULTY: This game can get hard. It just depends on what difficulty you pick, mode A will be the hardest and mode B will be the easiest.OVERALL RATING 6.5
