For what would be the general childhood console for a good portion of people on the board, what would be everyone's all-time favorite game on the N64?

If I had to pick, mine would be Paper Mario, since I played that the most out of my library of games like WWF No Mercy, Mario 64, Star Fox 64, and Banjo Tooie. That's just to name a few! Paper Mario is just such a fun game to play with the perfect world for an RPG and I just love it for that alone.

For me, Ocarina of Time is the best N64 game. While people might have their own personal opinions on the game, it can't be denied that it was revolutionary in terms of what it did for the Zelda franchise. The 3D feature completely reinvented the open world aspect of the game as well as mechanics like Z-targeting and the overall feel of the game in general. The game's soundtracks were amazing as well in my opinion. Perhaps the biggest reason why I like this game is the fact that they were able to shift a traditionally 2D game into 3D without drastically changing any of the things that made us fall in love with the original games.

I did not get the N64 till later. I'm probably showing my age but my childhood counsels were the Atari, NES and SNES. Still I had two favorite games on the N64. Banjo and Kazooie and Banjo Tooie.

I thought the graphics and music in Banjo Kazooie rocked. I found that game to be addicting. It was just that good. The levels where well designed. The soundtrack was great. Overall it was a very good game. I still play to this day.

Banjo Tooie was also good mainly for the same reasons as the first game. I also liked that the sequel had new features in it. I played that game a lot and still do.

I think Paper Mario is probably my biggest contender for best N64 game. Banjo Tooie was solid too, but I only ever rented that game so Paper Mario has the far bigger place in my heart. There was a lot of charm to it, and the battle system was really innovative!

The best Nintendo 64 game for me was either Quake or Doom 64. Don't get me wrong. I love Ocarina of Time a lot but it being stuck at ~20 fps on the Nintendo 64 version (and the semi-broken Gamecube port) I think the 3DS version is the best one to play. I also thought Rainbow Six on the 64 was actually a pretty good port, but there was just something about the first two games that just set the entire standard of the fps genre that would change how they would be made from then on. It is just so cool playing games like those and just experiencing how others would have played them back in the day (480p sometimes not 60fps) it just shows how what seems like 2 ordinary old games from around 20 years ago could just change the industry just like that.

(also quake's engine was modified to make the Goldsrc aka "Gold Source" engine, which, in turn, made the original Half-life possible to play without creating a new entire game engine altogether)
