Edited September 9, 2017 I want to inform that I have miraculously discovered an additional copy of the video in a folder, so if the page moderator is interested, the topic can be closed.

Greetings to the individual reading, I apologise for creating another topic. My reason for this topic is to ask if any member is aware of how to repair either a damaged or corrupted .mp4 video.

Recently, I have attempted numerous times to remove a video from the hard drive of a computer that can not power on sadly, and I have experienced many errors. First the errors I would see the most while trying to transfer the video is "Error 0x800701E3 The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error" or "Invalid MS-DOS function."

I have scanned the hard drive errors, but I am not able to repair some of the files due to insufficient space. I then attempted to defragment the video to see if that will help me transfer the file, but my computer froze and did not respond for more than five minutes. I forced the laptop to shut down and restart, and now the file displays only this message:

I have contacted Microsoft for help, but one staff moderator stated that the file is corrupted. Since this is the only video with this problem on the hard drive, may I ask if any member is aware of what to do? I did search on YouTube and Google, but I could not locate what can assist my situation. This video is important to me since I was asked to bring to the Police station.

did you try to add the ".mp4" at the very end? this makes the computer think its a mp4 file and with that safely remove it. i'm guessing its a windows 10 computer because of the message UI. Follow this instructions and reply back if the file got remove.

I give my thanks for responding. I have tried that suggest once the problem began, but the error message continues to display. I apologise for not stating in my description, but yes the computer I have is Windows 10. The hard drive is from a HP g6 Pavilion if this information is helpful.

I am not certain what actions can I do that will not require to buy a program since that is what I have seen available when I have searched on Google. I have tried a program called Digital Video Repair, but the program seems more suitable for .avi format.
