Tried the search function and I'm seeing that there's no real general thread about Punk? I guess I should give it a try and make one. I think this chaotic, crazy, foul, controversial mentality and its biggest output, the music, doesn't need much introduction. Just stand up and talk. Can be anything, even if it doesn't really carry the mentality but has something to do with it.
I'll just talk about Punk how I've been experiencing it.
I do listen to different kinds of music now, but the biggest of them all has to be good ol' Punk Rock -- of the late 70's and 80's. Starting sometimes in 2009 - 2010, thanks to different Youtube channels, I was made aware of a huge ton of punk bands, all from different countries, all being a bit different from each other, even though punk bands sound similar due to how easy it is to do punk rock.
Like I said, I listen to the old punk. I can't really be bothered to listen to new stuff. I don't know, but I think that punk back then had its distinct sound, country from country the punk sounded a bit different. There weren't just the big "U"'s, UK and USA, but many more. Italy, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Ex-Yugoslavia, Poland, Japan, even dictatorship/communist-ridden countries like all the European East Bloc states, Brazil and Russia had a lot of different creative punk music to offer. It doesn't have to be popular, even smaller bands can sound of fun and energy.
Nowadays, whenever I try to listen to something new and recent, I have to turn away. Dare I say it's because it all sounds too clean and too similar? I'm not entirely sure but there is something about today that I don't like. I'm very fond of what's coming from Ex-Yugoslavia, the east bloc states, Scandinavia and Japan. So much difference and creativity. When I buy punk music, it's 99,9% all on hard media. Not just CDs but also MC cassettes and vinyl. Mostly used from discogs.
Just listing loads of bands to check out, sorted by country. Prepare for the obscure:

And many many many more aside from the legendary Sex Pistols and Dead Kennedys...
A good way to start looking for obscure bands is to check out the "Killed By Death", "Bloodstain across [insert country, region or state here]", HYPED TO DEATH, MESSTHETICS, 1984, etc. compilations. Even if you don't buy them, you still can look up the track lists and then spend a lot of time research and listening to those bands. Some are uploaded on Youtube. Speaking of Youtube, there are channels like Dronemf11 (for Ex-Yugoslavian stuff, also including other interesting genres), TheAbortus, degenerik aka. duleklc2 aka. duleklc666, rickvarukers and his many channels, Советский панк-рок - Аудио (Stuff from the last years of Soviet Russia)
That's all for now. My journey to find out more still continues on. After going on Youtube and listening to all that stuff, I'm now getting them all physically. Well, not really, because some releases are extremely rare and if available, very expensive. Sometimes only by buying I'm discovering something new. My wish list is pretty big.
