What was/is your experience with drivers ed? Before my mom and I signed up for it, several friends of mine warned me that it would be boring and hardly enjoyable. Well, after taking it for 2 out of the 3 weeks I needed to take it for, I have proven them all wrong.

I'm doing drivers ed through All-Star Driver Education, and my instructor has put in a nice effort to make our class more fun than it appears to be. For example, she tells stories that relate to the topic of our lesson. It helps me put into perspective just how important everything I'm learning in there is.

Also, most of the videos they show in their Prezi presentations have been interesting and helpful to me. I am a visual person so I like being able to see what I'm supposed to be doing while I'm driving/parking/etc.

Finally, drivers ed takes place at my school so I see a few familiar faces. 2 other students in the class attend that school, and the guy I got to know reminded me he was in my Biology class back in sophomore year. We are becoming friends and pointing out funny things.

The downside to my location for drivers ed is that the room is very hot. Even with the fan on in the back of the classroom, I sit in the front so I am sweating with a T-shirt and shorts on. :/

I didn't have Driver's Ed. I just had a PDF guide I had to study. That was it, really. I am shocked that most people have things a whole lot more strict when it comes to driving and getting your license.

A user of this : Wow, that saves a ton of time. Yeah, you would think that most information about driving is common sense. And that more people would happily follow it so there wouldn't need to be a type of school just for driving. I enjoy it though, so at least my parents are getting their money's worth!

Pacman+Mariofan : You may be the only one who enjoys Driver's Ed classes... At least the only one I know of anyway.

A user of this : You're probably right about that. Every time I look at the people around me in drivers ed class, they look either stressed, tired, or bored. Sometimes they'll have their heads rested on their arms so can more lazily watch the videos. XD

I personally enjoyed delivered ed but thought it was stupid to have. First, I'd been following traffic law since I was 14 while riding my bike on the street. Yes, biking on the road requires knowing how to drive. Second, the whole "you must pay $200-600 for drivers ed" because it was a requirement BEFORE getting to test was pretty stupid. I could have just gone in an aced the test because I already knew the law and had been driving pick up trucks on the orchard for a while.

However, despite the inconvenience to me I'm glad they did that in my hometown because everyone else in America seems to NOT know the law or how to drive. Especially, when it comes to pedestrian right of way or "bikes are automobile" law.

WandererExiled : A lot of people think the whole process of drivers ed is silly. For me, I liked it because everything I learned in there is useful for when I drive. Except for the slide in a presentation that showed us what a window looks like. Come on, we know that! Our instructor laughed at that one.

My area has added on bike lanes to several streets so if I had waited to drive until later, I might have learned traffic laws with biking first. Unfortunately, I haven't had any good opportunities to ride my bike around those areas yet.

Exactly. My trick is to assume the people around me don't know what they are doing, that way I'm always alert and careful.

I took Drivers Ed my Freshmen year in High school. The reason was I was 16. I never failed a grade I just got a late start. Anyway, for the most part I enjoyed it. My instructor was certified to give us our license. He let us drive in several spots. I found the class to be very useful. Drivers Ed is how I got my license.

My Drivers Ed was very cheap and didn't do very well in the actual driving part of the Drivers Ed. It had enough budget to let us learn driving from the book, but never had a test drive whatsoever. Just enough to get a driver's permit and was a basic "good luck" and I had to get my dad to teach me for the rest of the way. Basically it was pretty boring, but it was what it was and I did fine for the rest of my own way.

tornadocam : It's good that you enjoyed it! I still enjoyed the last few days of my classes as well as the rest. My certificate is being mailed to me

pacman1755 : That's sad. The actual driving was what I looked forward to the most. And we didn't do much from the book, we mostly watched videos.

I was not very fond of the class or the teacher I had. The class itself was easy and the material made sense, but the teacher had a tendency to babble frequently. She'd often go on tangents and tell personal stories to the point where we ended up seriously behind schedule. While irritating, the worst part of the experience had to be how poorly she regulated the class. Idiots could get away with anything--horseplay, verbal insults, flicking things across the room, bringing a four course meal to class, you name it--she rarely did anything about it!

Most of what I learned about driving was from the few practice sessions I had with my father. I hardly retained any of the material covered in the pitiful class, so I was on my own in re-teaching myself the material in order to get my learner's permit and eventually my license.

I did, hated it. I don't plan on driving as it both saves money and gives me exercise.

SacredShadow: Oh man, when my instructor was at home taking care of her kid, the sub we had strayed away from our presentation to talk in-depth about the material in the textbook. It lasted for 2 hours a day, so that was a very long 2 hours and I didn't remember anything from it. To top it off, the fan wasn't on in the room so we were sweating (don't misread that as swearing ).

Wow, thankfully your dad was a big help. I don't like classes like that either since I get so distracted and overwhelmed by everyone's poor choices and the teacher letting them.

Boured : Both of those factors will benefit you greatly in the long run. Especially if the long run is you doing a long run.

Namrea : That's a good reason, I plan on having my parents get me insurance when I earn my driver's license.
