When you're looking for the next thing to read, how do you go about doing so? Do you go to a library and look at physical copies or use their catalog online? Do you look by genre or author?

I know that when I look for a rare book to read, I always just go to the library and find authors that I am familiar with (Primarily James Patterson) and look for books they've wrote that I haven't quite read yet. If I don't find any, I always look online at the genre of the kinds of books that I like, and then go from there. I only go to the library, I don't read ebooks or anything like that.

How about you?

For books, I usually ask a friend of mine or my brother for suggestions. Half the time they'll hand me a book to read and it'll probably be good enough to get into. And if it's manga, I'll click on my manga app's surprise me option and pick something random to read online for a bit.

I go to this huge library that's close to my house, and I search through the Teen Fiction section (which I only did once and might not do again after reading such a creepy book). Or I do the better option which is the Fiction section they have on the opposite side of the library. That section is where I discovered my favorite books!

If I can't go to the library or I want to actually buy a book, I'll find some great books at Target.

Back in the day, I definitely loved going to the library and scanning shelves for the books that had the best combination of title and spine design. If one looked great from the side, then I would look at the cover and the blurb to see if I would like it. This strategy had helped me find some amazing series.

I don't do that as much anymore since I now have over 100 books that I have, but haven't read yet so I can't get any new ones lol.

I look for new books by browsing the shelves of the genre I like, then I read the summary and the first few pages to see if it's something I'd actually be interested in picking up.

In conjunction with this, I sometimes browse bookstore websites and narrow down the search fields and take a look at the ratings, author, reviews, and summary to get a feel for the book. If I am really wowed by the book, then I just order it online right then and there. Most of the time though, I head down to the bookstore and actually read some of it before buying just to be sure, plus I always enjoy the atmosphere of a bookstore, it's always a pleasant experience.

I look for books through the genre I like them in, since that's easy enough as it is.

Another way I look is to see if there's a topic in the book that I am familiar with, or character that I have heard of before.

I go through genres that I would normally read to look for books that I like. So when I am searching new books to read that is how I would do this I find it much easier to search, so this way I don't end up picking books that I don't like reading.

One of my favorite resources for finding books is the website Goodreads.

It's also a great online community for book lovers, no matter which genre(s) one might prefer.

I would quite often check authors from the same genre as an author that I'm currently a fan of. Usually authors in the same genre are similar enough in style that a book you enjoy from one author will be enjoyable from another one.

I also like checking online and asking "If I like [author] who else would I like?" or something like that. Quite often there are forums where people have posted lists of authors they like that are similar and I've found several new authors that way.

Personally, there are a few steps you should use to find a book that you will like.

1. Know what you want.

Know what you want, this includes what genre, author, and writing style you like most. Do you like books with happy endings, do you like books with frivolous action? Of course, if you are a happy fantasy novelist then you obviously aren't going to pick something like Wicked, now are you?

2. Look for books similar to your favorite author.

If able, always read the first page to deduct your first impressions. Often, a slant on the book can often be discovered here. Look at the style of writing and answer a few questions: what is the book about? Is the book positive or negative? Are there any tones? These sorts of things cna see if a book is right for you.

That probably my top 2 tips to be completely honest. If you need more, feel free to ask.
