So news started coming out today, and I caught it on my facebook. I would post the article that was released, but it reveals what school I went to as well as where I live, and I rather keep that information hidden from public, so if you want to look at the article, just let me know, and I'll PM it to you.

This was old news, but it just got out in public today in my area. A teacher in the high school I graduated from got arrested for having sexual encounters with a student who graduated with me. As of now, he's pretty much suspended from his job, so my school is going to need a new 12th grade English teacher. So now, there's been fb posts from past students, saying they are disgusted with the teacher. Then there's also some posts saying the teacher was the victim, and the student should be guilty.

But here's what's happened, based on what I've heard from my friends and classmates. Back in March, that teacher and the student were sending emails to each other, and they began to meet each other outside of school. Apparently, there was kissing and groping going on. Then about a week or two before the school year ended, they got caught by a few students. The girl freaked out, so she pinned the entire blame on the teacher while trying to say it wasn't her fault.

Let me just say, they're both to blame. They both knew what they were doing, they both knew it was wrong, and they got caught. Honestly, I'm disappointed in the teacher, since throughout my high school life, I had heard so many good things about him and I had looked forward to having him as my teacher in my senior year. (that didn't happen, I ended up with someone else).  Also I am not surprised the student did what she did. I knew she wasn't the type to admit she's done wrong when she's caught, but she should've known better. 

That has become more and more common, sadly. 2 teachers in my high school were caught for the same thing and I keep hearing about this happening in other places too.

Teachers should care about and show love to their students, but not that much.

I hear about these kinds of stories a lot, but I've never had it happen to any schools that I have attended or been near, so that's a great relief. 

Whats honestly crazy about these sort of things is just how often it happens. You'd think after the first couple of times, people would become aware, but as long as students continue to comply, it won't stop. 

Humans always do things that they shouldn't, the teacher was in the wrong in this situation, but so was the girl. Putting all of the blame on the teacher wasn't what she should have done, and everyone knows that. After the first few emails, if you aren't good with it, you'd tell someone else, not keep going.

It's a crazy world we live in. 

This seems to happen a lot. 

Earlier this year in my state of TN we had a very similar event. Now it was not at my school In fact the school this took place in was a good 3 hours from me. Still, it has raised a lot of questions. 

This 15 year old girl had to deal with abuse at home. Her Mother was arrested and not allowed to see the girl anymore. So the girl had a broken home. The teacher who as 50 started to talk to her. Over time the talks started to turn romantic. The girl reportedly told her friends that when she turned 18 they were going to get married. The teacher was already married. Well a student caught them hugging and kissing. The school fired the teacher. The girl left her family and ran away with the Teacher. For 4 months they were on the run. Until a hiker found them on the Pacific coast. 

The Teacher has been arrested and charged with sexual things. But the girl says it was consensual. So far and what is being reported she is still saying that. She claims she wants to be with him. 

Now here is were things get complicated for the prosecution. If the girl continues to say she went willingly due to a 1900 law that was never changed. TN allows girls to leave their home at the age of 15 esp if there was abuse going on. What is being reported is that may be used and if the girl continues to say it was willingly. All the state can get him on is inappropriate relations with a minor. 

My opinion is I think the teacher took advantage of a broken girl who came from a troubled home life. I think he made her feel worthy something she wasn't getting at home. She felt like she was loved regardless of how wrong it was. Due to those reasons I think the girl is saying those things cause she does not want to go back to her home. He was her ticket out. On the other hand he knew she was vulnerable and took advantage of her. 

A sick and immoral situation either way 

High schools always have some of the weirdest stories. The high school that I went to had one of the principles with the worst histories. While I was there, he got in so much trouble, all sorts of different lawsuit and possible arrests, and ever since I graduated, him and the school would be in the paper for something stupid at least a couple times a year and he still gets to be the principle.

For some reason, some teachers can't, "take a hint", and have any sense of what is wrong morally, and its consequences. Though on the other hand, the girl can be to blame, though who knows if she was under an influence of some sort.

I just don't think this is humanely right to do. It seems like there is a growth of people being added to the sex offenders list which kinda explains a lot about the society we live in today. I suspect that people, as they usually are, are trying to exploit our advancements in technology, using them for malicious deeds. It shows how uncomfortable they are with change. 

Luckily, it doesn't happen much, if at all, here in the UK. Not trying to be offensive by any means, but I feel that other countries have a more strict standard of etiquette meaning an incident like this would be battering for someone's reputation. This is why these scenarios keep playing out. More investigation should be carried out into these and given as a warning for people who decide to mess with it.

The exact same thing happened to one of my former high school teachers (I was in my first year of college when it happened). It happened last October and he was arrested for having sexual relations with a student...the disturbing thing is, I knew who the student was when the news leaked. I remember being incredibly surprised when I found out because I never would've pegged my teacher as the type of person to do this sort of thing.

I also believe something similar happened to my middle school principle. He seemed like a normal guy on the surface, but many of the girls often complained that he often went into the girls' changing rooms for gym...once again, he was fired after I already left. Disturbing indeed...

Teachers,in my opinion,are getting dumber and dumber. In my area teachers have been busted for illicit relations with students or drug use. I mean,how damned stupid are they? They just threw away their education,reputation,and futures,and for what? A little play with students or a baggie of drugs?

The student shouldn't have gotten involved, but the fact remains that the teacher is more at fault. The reason the student shouldn't have gotten involved, besides that it is completely unprofessional, is that the student is underage. He is a grown adult, and if he is hired as a teacher, he is being hired on the basis (of assumption apparently) that he knows any student entering the school is his pupil *only*. Under US law, a minor is anybody under the age of 18. Honestly, 10 years ago I would have agreed with you, but since I'm nearing 30 my outlook on life has drastically changed. When you're 15/16 (the age it looks like she was), your mind is still developing; a teenager doesn't have the capacity to understand the weight of their consequences the way an adult over 30 does. The fact she pinned all of the blame on him isn't at all surprising; she was scared of getting into trouble. We don't know what her home life was like, or what other factors caused her to seek out or accept his advances. We all have motives for our actions, so it's unknown what her motives were, or even his. 

I imagine you, as well as other students, are really hurt by this because of the fact he seemed like a really good teacher - and I'm sure he was. It's just too bad that he decided a relationship with a student was a choice he wanted to make.
