I've been searching for a job for about a year now and I haven't had much luck. I applied to 30+ jobs that are in my area. None of them would hire me and I'm pretty much out of options.  I'm not sure what else I could do at this point. I've even had family and community members try to help me, but they weren't able to help any. 
I know a lot of users have gone through similar things so I was hoping someone could give me some ideas.

i know your pain, i too apply to all available job offers including ones that were out of my league (but hey who hasnt done that). Anyway, how about freelancing as a transport way to get money. I highly don't recommend Fiverr because of many problems that shouldn't be happening. Also too much competition, it started as $5 easy offer is now $5+$20 fee + free stuff and cheaper person.


http://www.guru.com is way better for the seller and buyer because the website holds onto the money and whoever breaks the contract (yes you sign contract something easy to work with not court legal battle) doesn't get the money. Also i used it a lot as a buyer and trust me being a buyer is harder than a seller (less people and i need to know if they are active).

Lastly, why not try selling your work on the net? Theres so many websites that offer ways to sell your work. You can even sell stuff on amazon (ebay is evil) for money.

I was applying for jobs for 3 years. Never got much more than a random interview (was told I was overqualified). Move across the country, get a job within a week.

legacyme3 : Yeah its a shame. Most of the places I applied to even had hiring signs outside.
When I first started applying to jobs I was suprised when I didn't hear anything back. My whole life I was told I'd be able to do anything because of how well I did in school. It wasn't until last year one of my teachers finally tought me how the world really worked. Hopefully things will work out better when Im older.

Ouch. Don't be afraid to call back or show up in person, and ask if they've had a chance to look over your resume. 

I hope everything works out for you. I know some areas are tougher to find work in. 

  I know how it feels to be without a job so far I have worked for 4 different places on which 2 of them went out of business my first job I had was for 15 years as a dishwasher at a restaurant but when the restaurant closed up I had to look for another job and my second job was at a department store for 9 years and they too also went out of business while I was unemployed I applied at many different places some more than once hoping to get hired and while I did get called for a couple of interviews I wasn,t hired until about 11 months later where I went to work at a grocery store for over 1 year until I applied online 6 years ago to work at the store where I am today the only advice I can think of is pretty well what plasticinsanity said also if you know of any website you can go to for jobs have a look and see what is available because I know that these days the only way you can apply to work at some places is online

plasticinsanity : I went in person to a few of the jobs that didn't say no already, but it didn't help any. I even had one place tell me they'd hired me only to have them forget about me and ignore my calls.

no 8120 : It sounds like you've had a rough time. Hopefully the store you work at now will work out. Most of the jobs I applied to I did online. Some were through the company's websites and others were through third party sites.

earthwarrior : That is disgusting - that they'd hire you, and then forget about you and ignore you. But yet completely believable. I have a friend who was hired and then told that they made a mistake and she wasn't needed. 

If you can, I'd also suggest checking sites like monster or indeed (I'm sure you do but just throwing that out there). 

I havent used those sites but I used another one for local jobs. Ill check them out!

I kinda know how you feel, I'm in a town where there's pretty much no jobs.

I really do hope you can get a job soon, it's good to have one as soon as you can. I don't have any advice but, I dunno, you have my support or something.

Also, do you want to work from home as an independent contractor? A company called Babbletype is looking for transcriptionists and proofreaders, I think. The transcriptionists transcribe audio recordings and the proofreaders proofread them. The recordings are usually recordings of market research interviews.

I've done a transcript for them before. The work is time-consuming and the pay is decent (in my opinion). For example, it has taken me three or four hours to transcribe thirty minutes of audio, and I got paid $15 for it. I type at 85 words per minute on average.

I know very well what it feels like. I looked for six months before I finally found something. Depending of what skills or previous experience you have, you might want to consider moving. I did it, and although I regret it at times (Honey didn't follow me... yet), it was the best move I could do for my professional life. And since I have a rare skill (native French Canada speaker), I won't have a hard time finding another job.

janus : I'm planning on going away for college so I'll definitely have more opportunities then. I currently have no special skills that would be useful to local employers so I don't really stand out at the moment. I was lucky enough to find a place that might be able to take me so I'll see how that goes.
I'm glad you were able to find work. It  really does suck that you had to leave friends and loved ones for it though.

I had the same problem trying to get a job, then again I was 15, but I was applying to Winn-Dixie and Publix, but no one wanted to hire me. Then I turned 16 and got hired to a local restaurant within 2 months, so it worked out for me.

It's OK not to have a job before college. However, it is a good idea to try having one before college so you have the experience. I'll be a senior in high school on August 24th and I haven't bothered to search for a job yet. I still have to get through drivers ed and obtain my license. Drivers ed starts on Monday and I can't get my license until the beginning of August at the very earliest.

I really don't know what skills I have that would stand out to employers besides my willingness to help others. I'm praying for you that at some point before/during college, you can be hired for a job that you'll thoroughly enjoy

Pacman+Mariofan : I know I don't need to have a job, but my family's financial situation is leaving me in a tight spot. If something happens to my parents or we get a sudden expense we'd be in trouble. Plus, if I can save money it will come in handy when I go off to college.
