It's Thursday.
You're in science, taking down notes about the exoplanet HD 20958 B, an exoplanet with wind speeds of up to 7,000km/h
The thought of speed makes you nervous.
Your track meet is today.
The bell rings, and it is now 4th period, your last for the day.
You change into your track uniform, and leave to get on the bus.
The bus is crowded with 14 to 18 year olds, and you, as a Senior, get to sit in the back.
Music begins blaring from a fellow senior's speakers, and you begin having an awful feeling of dread.
Your event, the 2400M , is first.
You arrive at the school where you are competing.
You have no more than 10 minutes to warm up.
You look into the audience, to see your crush looking at the field, and notices you.
Your sense of dread grows.
You regain enough focus by the time the gun fires.
You tread slowly for lap one.
Lap two, and you begin slowly speeding up.
Lap three, and you are now neck-to-neck with a rivaling school for fifth place.
The both of you are synchronized at the beginning of lap four.
Then, the two of you begin "Weaving"
One person gets in front, then the next, and then cycles onward.
It is now lap six, your final one, and the two of you are now parallel.
300M left..
200M...
And at 150M, you begin your last sprint, and begin to run all the way to tomorrow.
It is at 95M where you are sprinting like there's no tommorrow.
You have now secured fifth place, but there's an open window for fourth, as he's not done yet.
Your feet are now on fire as you are seperated only by the thin white line at 25M
You kick once more, and you cross the finish line.
You hear, "Congratulations, you took fourth place"
You lie on the ground, exhausted, not getting up until the meet is over.
Everyone is celebrating your victory on the bus ride home.
One of your friends gets you a nice, refreshing bottle of Orange Juice.
It is the best you have ever tasted.
The bus pulls up to your house, and you don't bother taking a shower.
You do your math homework for about thirty minutes, and then go to bed in your uniform.
Nobody can take today away.

Wow... I never would had thought such a thing would be so hardcore. Then again, I never been to one before - partly because I don't think we have them here in the UK. But getting to know how it feels from... I guess this is from your own viewpoint? Still, what you mentioned helps me to imagine how you might had felt during it.

Still, fourth place... Depending on how many runners there were, that is either an okay thing or a not so good thing. Either way, you didn't make the podium, but you still beat your rival - one out of two ain't bad, as the saying goes.

Thanks, I had gotten 4th place out of 12 runners ( 3 runners from 4 schools) and was the second best in my school for seniors. It's actually not as hardcore as you think, because track is an underrated sport in the US as well due to American Football, Baseball, and Basketball ( I understand people in the UK and other non-us countries have rugby) but The track team is the largest due to multiple distances and field events.

Ah, I see. Then again, I don't a lot about Track teams (barring a few bits and what I have learned in Persona 5)
Still, 4th out of 12 students is not that bad. A toast to you for doing that well.

Hey, congratulations, man! That was no small feat, and I have no idea how you can do it.

This was actually really cool to read. It got me inside the head of someone who was doing something I simply could not do, and to see a small glimpse of what it's like to experience the glory and excitement that I otherwise would never have been able to experience. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Out of curiosity, is this something you had to learn to do, or were you naturally fast? I mean I'm sure you have to practice a lot, but were you naturally gifted in this to start with and you just worked on improving said gift, or did you start out, well, slow like me? xD

Your crush went to a track meet that was a travel meet? That's unusual. Why was that person there? Maybe they're following you on purpose because they wanted to watch you race.

Good job running. I'm a runner myself. I'm curious as to what the actual stats were. What kind of time did you post for your race? Do you do any other distances? If you only had four runners in the distance race, did you have to sub in for any of the other ones? Usually track teams have members who run relays and hurdles and distance racing.
