Yet another game I grew up on. This time based on the wonderful Wishbone series of books and the TV show itself. Anyone once again growing up or was around in the wonderful 90's would know who Wishbone was. In case you were unaware who he was, Wishbone was a dog with a very big imagination. He liked to imagine he was the main character of those classic novels schools sometimes had you do book reports on or made you read.

This game, was based on Homer's Odyssey. Not the Simpson Homer, but the author. Now I never beat this game as a kid. I wasn't very smart, and couldn't beat it. I did have some fun playing checkers though, and occasionally gambling to get out of Hadies, but that was something else. This game still gets me thinking of better times so it still counts as nostalgia, which is what my mass review series is all about. I can easily write close to 1,000 words on this game alone based on my memory. So lets get started!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Graphics: A digitized wishbone super imposed over animation. This was about the norm at the time. I haven't played it in ages, but I am sure I would agree they both hold up well and show their age. I am sure those that played the game at the time would care. From what I remember, they look amazing. But those are memories from when I was 8, so I don't know how reliable that is.

Sound: I am not one to focus on Sound, but from what I remember, they are immersive, and what little music there was, sounded amazing. Birds chirped on the beach, and Wishbone probably had the same voice or a really really good impersonator.

Addictiveness: The amount of choice and different outcomes make this pretty engaging. I never beat it or past that area on the ship where the Hydra snake thing got you. I think my computer couldn't handle this. I don't remember if this was because I was stupid, or just because of the system. I had Windows 98 at the time. It's a pretty old game after all!

Story: One day Wishbone is testing out a virtual machine that can take him to his favorite book world, but accidentally gets stranded in it, when spooky plot lightening destroys the machine or something. This was pretty much around what I remember. This was basically Wishbone, meets Choose Your Own Adventure, meets Point and Click with different results based on your choices. Some caused you to die (where you would play a game I don't remember in Hades to escape and go back to the world) and others allowed you to pass. This is a kiddie version of Homer's Odyssey, with Wishbone himself as Odysseus.

Depth: I am sure there was a ton to do, but I just never completed it. I never read the novel so I was clueless, but I am sure it was all there based on said stories plot line. There were plenty of choices to make, and consequences. Some scared me more than others ;D

Difficulty: For me personally, this was a pretty hard game. Most of this was because I didn't know how to play it and I got stuck after awhile. I gambled my soul to get out of being a pig from Circe by playing Checkers, but I couldn't get far and each day I remember playing this, I got a little further. I am sure some people might disagree with me, and now that I am 20% smarter than I was as a kid, I could probably get further and beat the game. I don't know if my computer can run it as it is a pretty old game, but assuming I do play it, I can see myself getting a lot farther in the game, maybe even beating it at some point!

Final Thoughts: Another gem from my childhood! A game based on a classic novel I never read except vague ideas on what the story is about. I played this game to death, and never defeated it's challenge. Never saw if Wishbone made it out of that world. He probably did, I mean it was a kid's game based off a kid's show, but I never personally saw it. I bet if I were to play it again, I would remember every square inch I played at the time. Wishbone was a series I knew somewhat well. It had that 90's charm and I read a bit of the books and saw a good deal of the show. I liked the show better, but I digress. I remember checking a ton of Wishbone books out of the library to read, and never being able to finish them. Wishbone or not, I just couldn't get into the classic watered down approach to the source material.

This was another fine game in my library, that I at one point never finished and lost. I never played it again since I was 8 years old. I really don't remember selling these games but they still vanished into the void of lost treasured items that we sometimes lose and have no idea how they vanished. My parents could have moved them around and they might be lost in the void of lost items, but I would never forget what little I experienced of this game. Classic video gaming sticks with you if you let it. If I had defeated this game's challenge back in the day, the game would have been perfect. It always frustrated me that I never beat this blasted game. Maybe it's about time for me to see if I can get it on my computer and once again venture forth to help Wishbone get back home!
