I know the sports thread gets almost no action and no one here seems to care much except the odd NFL fan or baseball fan. Wrestling used to be ... never mind.

Major League Baseball is now getting rid of the manual four pitches for an intentional walk. A manager will signal to the umpire he wishes to walk the batter and the batter is automatically awarded first base without a pitch being thrown.

What do you folks think of this? I have my opinions but I want to hear everyone out first. Is it good, bad, or neither?

Ghostbear1111 : Its outrageous, you only need to hit the ball and go, no action is ever in play or awarded. RIP baseball it will be overused.

Personally I think adding new rules to one of the greatest sports ever is just dumb and stupid. If it is not broke do not fix it. Besides intentional walks can be fun. There is the chance of a wild pitch, hit by pitch and things have gotten crazy and exciting before.  I think the rules need to be left alone as they are.

I'm in favor. I find intention walks to be obnoxious to sit through.

I'm not into baseball, but I've sat through plenty of games because my dad and brother were big sports fanatics, specifically baseball and college football. As such I can say that I like the idea. I get that it seems to be taking something away from the game, but you aren't going to get a hit or strikeout on an intentional walk anyway, so why drag it out like we don't know what's going to happen? As Hidden Phantom said, they're annoying to sit through. Just give the man his base and be done with it, it all ends the same way regardless.

Heaven knows the game is slow enough without unnecessary formalities like that anyway.

Eirinn : Your last statement isn't true.  There have been a number of times when a player reaches out and smacks an intentional pitch, or the catcher simply misses it and it's a passed ball, and then mayhem happens.  That's why I, the purist, am against it.  That ball is live in the air four times and things can happen.

There are plenty of these videos.  It doesn't happen often but when it does it goes spectacularly wrong.

Eh, goes to show that I don't know what I'm talking about. I guess both sides have an argument then. I'll leave the sports talk to the ones who have a clue. lol
