Pretty simple poll. I don't think I've seen it here before.

Quick examples of each type of game.

RTS - Starcraft, Warcraft, Command & Conquer, or Age of Empires.

TBS - Civilization, "Total War", Heroes of Might and Magic, and Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

There are a ton of titles among each of these types so I don't think popularity is really an issue with these games.

What I want to know is which style of gameplay do you like the most? Are you the type that despises the "rushers" in the RTS games? Or do you hate how long most TBS games take because of the time spent on each "turn".

Let's hear some opinions!

RTS games are good, but if it's online, lag is bound to come into play and it can throw you off entirely. I must also admit, I'm not all that great at WC3, so maybe I'm a little biased against them. I've played some TBS games online as well, and the obvious fallacy is that there is no guarantee the other person will ever make a move. I wonder if they join a game and then walk away just to irritate people.

I like both a lot but, my vote goes for RTS because you have to think on the moment and not wait turn after turn to think of what to do when your town/city/colony is attacked. TBS is good if you want to take time and analysis the situation in the long run, but RTS is a bit better for fast paced people.

I'll comment now that there have been a few comments...

I love both styles of game. They both have really good things about them.

RTS is fast paced... you have to be on top of EVERYTHING going on all the time. If you forget about something that can be your downfall.

The thing I hate about RTS is how quickly you can lose. One bad move and the game is over. Take any RTS online and most games are won or lost in the first 15 minutes of the game. Almost 0 strategy involved in those games. It's just rush rush rush. I would rather play an RTS game that lasts 45+ minutes and requires some back and forth fighting.

TBS is also really fun. Like I said in the RTS.... I like longer games that have strategy. I don't want a single move to win or lose the game. However, you take an RTS online and the turns have to be fast otherwise it's not a very fun game to play .

I still don't think I have a favorite type... they are both fun in their own ways... and they both suck in their own ways

Chrono Trigger is a mixture of both of these elements, you can attack twice before your enemy gets a chance but you also have to wait a bit and choose your moves.

Chrono Trigger is NOTHING like the games I've described.... but good job jumping in and getting a post there .

Chrono Trigger is an RPG which isn't an RTS or a TBS really. I'm talking about comparing these 2 types of games.... seeing who likes which type more.

Sorry, but Chrono Trigger just shouldn't be in this conversation.

I'm not sure if I could really pick one or the other, there are games in both camps that I really enjoy.
I would possibly lean towards turn based strategy more as there are times when RTS can get annoying, like if your base has been nearly completely destroyed then you have no time to rebuild.
So I would say RTS had its cons, alot more so then TBS.
Sure, TBS might not work well online, but I don't care much for playing online nor do I care to play impatient players anyway even if I did.
