Ahhh, Kirby Super Star Ultra. I know of a lot of people that regard this game as their favorite in the series, if not, then one of their favorites in the series. Kirby Super Star Ultra is a remake of an older title for the Super Nintendo titled Kirby Super Star. It features many different types of games with varying gameplay modes. Kirby Super Star Ultra was released for the DS in 2009. Does it live up to its name? Is it really ultra?

Graphics - 9
The graphics in Kirby Super Star Ultra are a huge step up from the original, and it shouldn't be that big of a surprise since the original was released around a decade and a half before the remake. Everything is so much clearer, even the backgrounds are. In fact, I would go as far as to compare this game with Return to Dreamland, which has even better graphics since it's on a console instead of a handheld, and I would love the graphics in both games equally, even though they are very different from each other.

Sound - 10
Many people know Kirby games for having awesome soundtracks, and I know many people who also think the Kirby soundtrack is always cutesy and sounds like it's for babies. Well, for those of you who think the soundtrack is for babies, let me introduce to the track titled "Revenge of Meta Knight". Still not convinced, how about GALACTA KNIGHT'S THEME. Oh yeah, that's heavy metal. Is it for babies still? I didn't think so. Kirby Super Star Ultra features some of the most iconic tracks throughout the Kirby franchise, and a lot of those songs still find their way into the newer games today.

Addictiveness - 10
Think about it. Many different modes of gameplay, along with sub-games that just so happen to be really fun? Sign me up. But wait, there's more! You can play with a friend, and the friend can be the helper, which is basically an enemy but on Kirby's team. TAKE MY MONEY. You can play 2 player mode in almost every single mode of gameplay, and I just love it. Playing Kirby with a friend is much more fun than playing alone, as it should be with most games. But there's just something special about Kirby games that makes playing with a friend that much more enjoyable.

Story - 8
Since this game has varying modes of gameplay, each with a different story to them, I'm just going to go and explain the story to what many people consider the final story of the game. Marx asks for Kirby's help to stop the sun and moon from fighting, and the only way to do that is to get help from NOVA, a giant face in space. It's a pretty simple story, until you get to the end. I'm not going to spoil it for you, but it's pretty epic.

Depth - 9
As I stated earlier, Kirby Super Star Ultra features many different modes of gameplay. There's a ton of things to do in each of these modes. For example, in the Great Cave Offensive mode, you must look for treasure and get to the end of each stage. The treasure is optional, but it's always fun to look around for it anyway. In addition to those main modes of gameplay, you got sub-games, which are basically fun little minigames. All of the sub-games have multiple levels to them, so you have to play them more than once to finish them all.

Difficulty - 7
In the begging of the game, Kirby Super Star Ultra isn't really that hard at all. Of course, as you progress through the game, it gradually gets more difficult. I'd say around the time you reach The Great Cave Offensive mode is when it starts to get a bit harder. After you finish what seems to be the final gameplay mode, you are introduced to even more gameplay modes, such as The True Arena. And lemme tell you, The True Arena is no joke. You think this is a game? You're dead wrong, and you're gonna be dead. The True Arena is arguably the most difficult thing in most of the Kirby games, as it contains harder versions of all the bosses, as well as a new secret boss at the end.

Overall - 9.1
Kirby Super Star Ultra was a very necessary entry into the series. It introduced new characters, new music, and many other things. It is a huge step up from the original Kirby Super Star on the Super Nintendo, and I, along with many other people, am glad they decided to remake this game. Kirby's 25th aniverssary is this year. Who knows what's next for Kirby at this point?
