Last night I was leaving my old school and I passed a bus stop and literally stopped dead in my tracks when I saw a poster for the new Series of Unfortunate Events, and I was shocked. But I forgot about it until I saw an advertisement for it today on YouTube and I still couldn't believe it.

I loved the book series, and I thought the movie was going to be awesome but I absolutely HATED it, and now I'm thinking that the show can redeem everything because the ad looked pretty epic.

The show will be on Netflix and begins on Friday.

Any other fans of Series of Unfortunate Events, who either already know about the show or are shocked about finding out about it?

Lexatom : Well, it starts with these kids. Their parents are killed. They move in with someone who I think is their uncle or something. They spend 13 books and a movie trying to survive from this uncle who is trying to kill them so that he can get their families inheritance.

Once you get past the third book you know everything and don't even need to read the rest, in fact the movie purposefully left out everything that happens after that book.

I don't like how netflix is presenting the series, the big obvious one is that the trailer feels funny. A  Series of Unfortunate Events makes the reader feel intense something like the characters who might die or end up in a worse place than now. Also many characters went out off line and extra unneeded stuff was added, i absolutely know that their uncle did not place the hour clock wrong and he also did not play "my is better".

the person playing banker is not how he looked, baby looks too old, the environment looks awfully bad compared to its other tv series, illuminati confirmed, actors did not grow up like in the book after a few years (they should have been bigger when they were seen at the boat), and spoilers everywhere!

mastergame : if anything, those kinds of changes are nothing compared to bigger adaptations where they change genders, race, etc. just look at Percy Jackson. In fact, for one of my all time favorite books, the adaptation not only changed the city, ending, and characters, the characters did something that literally impossible in their city just so the movie can be viewed with better lighting.


Plus on being too funny, I don't see it being any worse than what Jim Carey did with the movie.

I had just signed up for the free trial of Netflix just so I could see this. Season 1 has 8 episodes that only do the first 4 books of the series, so that's pretty much an entire movie worth of content for each book, which is MUCH better.

I just finished downloading the entire first season to my phone and I'm going to have a blast watching these when I'm travelling. So far, the show has a 92% rating and a lot more hype than it has before it's release today.

I just saw the 4 eps (which counts as 2 books) and it is completely off track. Yes movies or tv shows do this very so often but this is giving out secrets and spoilers to everyone who hasn't read the book. Very quickly the tv show is going off the trail from the book like very very off while still maintaining the original story. There is also almost illogical settings which does not make any sense while the book is within reason, this is just proof that Netflix does not care about the story details but only the story. The way it is set might cause no surprise to the viewer, unlike the book version "The End" where you regret reading the story...

In any case, no do not watch Netflix version because the story is being spoiled and you can not feel how hopeless the characters are in certain parts of the show.
