Ronda Rousey is possibly the most known female fighter in this world today. Even WWE fans wants her permanently signed with the organization back in wrestlemania when The Rock bring her to the ring. She have a record for the longest UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion.
But nowadays, why does she in a such a bad form? I mean, losing to Holly Holm was shocking and i thought that loss was just like Cain Velasquez's loss to Junior Dos Santos, which he came back up in the next matchup, and become one of the most well known Heavyweight champion. But what's up with Ronda? Her return to the UFC was sooo hyped up and people believe that she'll beat Amanda Nunes for the championship, but what's happened? She loss again! Now, think about this..... Ronda loss the championship to Holly Holm, and Holm lost it to Miesha Tate (who's considered as Ronda Rousey's nemesis but she never beat Ronda) and Tate lose it to Amanda Nunes. Holly holm got her butt whooped against Miesha Tate, which never beat Ronda, but why Ronda got her butt whooped against both Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes? Is she even good anymore? Is she even a superstar class fighter anymore? Is she regressing? Nobody knows, but what i know is, she's disappointed her fans big time. But nowadays, why does she in a such a bad form? Maybe because she was never as good as the UFC built her up to be.
Simply put Ronda is a 1-trick pony. It's a pretty good trick she has but once people figure it out there isn't much she can do. Strong take-down defence and good striking and Ronda can't handle it. She's lost twice to this strategy. Unless she can get better at fighting standing up she won't win again. Also, Ronda basically made the women's division in UFC popular. That allowed the UFC to bring in a lot more talent that Ronda wasn't facing when she started in UFC. The division is much better than when Ronda started out (a lot of that is thanks to Ronda herself) and so it shouldn't really be a surprise that now there are plenty of women on, or above, her level now. I don't know, I'm not as surprised as a lot of other people were. I didn't think she would beat Nunes. However, I'm not going to watch a PPV because Nunes is on it. I watched because of Ronda but not because of Nunes. If Ronda never fights again I don't know if there will be another fighter in that division that will be anywhere as popular and that likely means that whatever run it had is likely already peaked. I think she's either distracted, or as geeogree said she's not as good as people made her up to be. And it's not that hard to scout someone out and figure out their weakness and then exploit in a match. I think Ronda should just change some parts of her game a little so that she surprises her next opponent. |

geeogree : Well, she does seem to be big boned so maybe she thinks because of her bigger build she can brush off enough hits to take out her opponents. She seems to have "over-estimated" her own capabilities. XD |

When you think you are the best in the world reality will come smack you upside the head like it did to CM Punk, Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey |

"lately" being two fights, a year apart.
There are a lot of factors for why Ronda lost against Nunes. The fight against Holm was the start of it, but she's not the same person she was a year ago. It was believable, then, that she could beat Holm. It really wasn't believable that she could beat Nunes the other night. 1. It's been over a year since she fought, and she goes from 0 to 100 real quick. I can't name too many people who take a year off from actual fighting, and come back to face the motherf***ing champion straight off the bat. 2. Her style doesn't go well against Nunes. Rousey cannot take a punch. Every fight she's had until this point has had her fight opponents who were at a disadvantage... except Holm and Nunes, two AMAZING stand-up fighters who won't let Ronda get the clinch in. 3. Mentally, she's gone. I don't know why losing to Holm wrecked her so bad, but you could see in her entrance, in her press, and in the beginning stages of her fight, she's just not the same fighter anymore. She actively looks afraid, and once you begin to fear your opponents, it's over. She has forgotten entirely how to fight. She could beat any one of us, but at the high level UFC requires, no. She overcommitted to bad shots, and she pulled her punches, and pulled back on her few good chances she had against Nunes. 4. The evolution of the sport has passed her by. She's not exactly one-dimensional, but gone are the days where you can be good at your ground game and be champion for a long time. You need at least passable stand-up, good clinch abilities, and good ground game. Presently, she has a good ground game, and she can still get people in the clinch, but her stand-up is absolutely terrible, especially when she tries to box. Even worse, most people in the division are learning how to avoid the clinch better, now that there's a blue-print to beating Ronda. She can still compete, she's only 29 or 30, but she needs to change her style around to accommodate the UFC's evolution. I think she's done, though. It makes more sense for her to transfer to being an actress, or go to WWE while she can. She's rich enough to retire (made like 3 million for losing to Nunes), and do something that doesn't involve putting your body on the line. She should have retired after the Holm fight, but whatever. I'll miss her, because she was a fun, rootable fighter, and I'm not off the bandwagon, if she continues to fight, I'll continue to root for her. But I really want her to retire and do something else, if she's not going to change up her game entirely. Only a fool does the same thing over and over, expecting different results. Everyone knows how to beat Ronda as she is now, it wouldn't be shocking if most of the top contenders in the bantamweight division can beat her. geeogree : yeah, i agree with you. She's done a lot for the progression of the women's bantamweight division this past few years, and a lot of talented fighter are coming in, and those fighters probably learned about her style since she's the number one which is a bad thing for her.
She's amazing in the ground, her ground n pound is scary and her submission game is pretty good (although its just armbars :p), she's outgamed by Holm and Nunes. When I watch those match, she doesn't really landing her shot and the opponents gets EZ counter a lot of times which is what Ronda needs to fix in her game. The woman's bantamweight division is getting the 'featherweight division'. What i mean by that is, remember, Jose Aldo used to be a very dominant fighter, and the newcomer Connor McGregor rekt the crap out of him, i think that's what's up with the women's bantamweight div, but in this case, Holm and Nunes are the McGregor xD Abdullahboys : yeah, she really need to fix her strategy and improve her standing strikes, like, switch camp or something, she has been with that one trainer for far too long (than one greek looking guy) and his strategy ain't gonna improve her game anymore i think JigSaw : yep i see that happening to a lot of fighters, like Connor McGregor did that once and get beaten by Nate Diaz lol legacyme3 : yep, those are true, especially the mental part. It feels like she's having a breakdown after the Holm fight, and what surprises me the most is the fact that she probably didn't recover from that yet which is really a shame. A good fighter that having a few years not fighting really impacted their game, like Anthony Pettis, he got outgamed by Max Holloway. They really went from 100 to 0 real quick, what a shame... About a month ago, I was in the audience for a major sports talk show, and it just so happened that Dana White, (the UFC president) along with the chick Ronda was fighting next were both in the show. They said that her first loss to Holm pretty much emotionally destroyed her and while she's still as good as she used to be, it's because of that that she hasn't been so great since then. They said it's much more mental than physical. |
