It’s Christmas Story Week! (Day 4)

Ages: 9+

(All names of existing people are changed due to privacy)

“Tiffany opened a small box she got from Santa Claus. There was a flower hairclip in it. It was a rose hairclip, to be exact. She looked happy, as she always wanted a hair accessory. I don’t  know why either. But she went up to Santa and was shaking his hand.

Tiffany: “Thank you, Santa!”
Santa Claus: “Oh no, thank you! You give us more joy now!”
Suddenly, I had a great idea. Kimberly and I were watching the situation and I got an idea. I needed Santa’s help, though...
Joshua: “Uh... Mr. Claus?”
Santa: “Hohoho!  Joshua, call me Santa! Tell me... What’s bothering you?”
Joshua: “I have a brilliant idea: What if we organize a big event for Christmas? We use your official toys to give to the guests, whether they’re adults or children. And the money we receive is for an organization for children in the need for help, like homeless children! “
Santa: “Hmm... Unfortunately I have a busy schedule as always...”
Joshua: “Then we hit two things at once: You give the presents you need to deliver to the guests who had to get those presents! And thus, you join us and get lots of customers AND the work after the event will be easier as you already made some families happy!”
Santa was looking a bit serious. I thought: Uh-oh... Not a good thing.
Santa: “Hohoho! Okay then! I’m in!”
The parents and their children were already gone. Meanwhile, we were discussing about the event.
Santa: “But of course you’ll need to request this at your town hall too, Joshua. So go, I’ll wait at your house!”
I stuck up my thumb. I told Kimberly and Tiffany that we are going home.
Kimberly: “That quick? At least we can look around a bit more...”
Tiffany: “Yeah, I saw a spot where they sell hot chocolate milk.”
Joshua: “Alright, then we’ll go there. Maybe we’ll have a good view over the other stores and market spots.”
We went out of the toy store, said goodbye to Santa for now and went to the other side of the market. A lot of people were at the market, as citizens from other cities come here for this market too. This market is the only market from our country around this time of the year. Anyway, once we arrived at the store which sells hot chocolate milk, I grabbed my phone.
Kimberly: “Who you gonna call?”
Joshua: “My parents, to tell the plan.”
I typed in the number with my phone and was calling mom. 10 seconds later...
Amy: “Amy McKinsey, who am I speaking with?”
Joshua: “Hi mom, Joshua here.”
Amy: “Oh hey, Josh! Entertaining yourself a bit? And are Tiffany and Kimberly doing okay?”
Joshua: “Yes, they're okay! And yeah, we’ve met Santa Claus at the toy store. We discussed about a brilliant plan for an organization for helping homeless children. He’s waiting at our house, he told me.”
Amy: “He is? Hm. Then I’ll check for you if he indeed is standing there.”
Mom apparently went up from a lazy chair in our living room and went to the front door. She apparently opened it.
Amy: “Oh hi, Santa! Come on in, you must be cold now!”
Santa Claus: “Hoho! It’s indeed cold out there, but I live on the North pole so I can handle this. But I’ll come in.”
Amy: “I got my son Joshua on the phone, hold on... Joshua?”
The door got closed again. Mom let Santa in.
Joshua: “Yes, mom?”
Amy: “You were right: Santa Claus indeed was standing there. Anyway, what plan did you two discuss?”
Joshua: “Well, an event to help out homeless children by organizing a big party or something at the town square this Christmas. And the money we earn goes to the organization ‘Young Souls In Need’. I heard they help the children in poor countries by giving them gifts on Christmas and overall they’re providing food and clean water, clothes, etc. We just need to convince the mayor to join!”
Amy: “But...”
Joshua: “I mean, you have a good click with the mayor, right?”
Amy: “But honey, listen... We need to spend money for it ourselves too. I mean, who else will pay for the lighting, the artists who will perform, using the town square overall, etc.?”
Joshua: “Mom, I don’t want to start a fight now, but Alfie normally does something for Christmas and he has less money than we have. So is it really a big problem?”
Amy: “Yes, Joshua. And it wouldn’t be a success either. So let’s just give up, okay dear?”
Joshua: “Okay...”
I ended the call. Kimberly and Tiffany bought three cups with hot chocolate milk. One for Kimberly, one for Tiffany and one for me.
Kimberly: “And? Did she approve it?”
Joshua: “Well, she thinks it’s too expensive to start a big event for Christmas. So we’ll have to do it differently...”
Tiffany: “What do you mean, bro?”
Joshua: “Well, we need guests too, so we might have to change one thing: The money for joining. I mean, Santa is at my house, of which I still can’t believe he actually is there. “
Kimberly went to sit on a chair and was drinking her hot chocolate. It was still way too hot for her, but she blew on it first.
Kimberly: “You should be honored. Not everyone has Santa Claus in their house... The human, that is.”
Joshua: “Human?”
Tiffany: “Human?”
Kimberly: “Yeah, you see those Christmas decorations of Santa everywhere, though you guys got the real Santa Claus at your house.”
Joshua: “True. But we’ll have to do it like so: We ask the mayor for using this town square for the event on Christmas and tell everyone he organized it with the help of Santa Claus, while we actually make the planning for him.”
Tiffany: “Uh-huh, that’s what you told already.”
Joshua: “Exactly. Unfortunately, mom doesn’t approve the price, so I thought: As it’s almost Christmas and since Christmas is mostly about being nice, we could go to every address in town and ask the citizens to donate $4 o $3, depends on the size of the event.”
Kimberly was looking confused. And Tiffany was looking confused too.
Kimberly: “Why so exact in the donation?”
Joshua: “Well, we are with 7500 in the town. 7500 multiplied by 3 is 22.500 and multiplied by 4 is 30.000... I think $2,50 is enough, though... Uh, how much was that again?”
Kimberly and Tiffany were thinking.
Kimberly: “Hmm... Hold on, I got a calculator on my phone.”
Kimberly grabbed her phone. It had a pink case and it seemed to be the same type as mine. She typed in the numbers.
Tiffany: “Hold on... Is every single citizen going to pay $2,50 then? It seems a bit weird to me if they all did.”
Joshua: “You got a point with that... Uh... $3 per citizen? Then we got an average of 16.000, which should hopefully be enough for the event.”
Kimberly: “7500 X 2,50 = 18750. But I hear the plans already changed.”
Suddenly, the mayor was taking a stroll over the town square, I saw. He was inspecting the market as well.
Joshua: “Guys! The mayor is here! I saw him! Should we ask it to him?”
Kimberly: “Uh... You can, but is his answer positive?”
Joshua: “Let’s give it a shot.”
I went up and went to the mayor, who was inspecting a person who sells fish. I was pretty nervous, as he decided who may live in the town and who not. And he was overall the mayor, so...
Joshua: “Uh... Mr. mayor?”
Mayor: “Huh? Oh hello, young person.”
The mayor was a bit on the older side, he was like 63 years old. He had grey, short hair and mostly was wearing a dark blue, fancy outfit. The mayor can be nice to people... If he was in a good mood, that is.
Joshua: “Uh... I have a question for you, sir...”
Mayor: “Okay, hurry up. I have a busy schedule.”
Joshua: “Well, it’s for a Christmas event here on the town square. Can I make an appointment with you soon to discuss it?”
Mayor: “We’ll have to check for that. As I said, I have a busy schedule. If it’s possible, it would be only 10 minutes of free time. But I’ll check for you. What’s your name and address?”
Joshua: “I’m Joshua McKinsey and my address is Lilypadstreet 46. My mom, Amy McKinsey, bakes cakes for you.”
Mayor: “Oh, that Amy. Tell her that her cakes are still my favorite!”
Joshua: “I will. Thank you, sir.”
Mayor: “Well, I need to go now. As I said, I’ll check for the appointment.”
Joshua: “Okay, thank you.”
The mayor went away.
Mayor: “Have a nice day.”
Joshua: “You too.”
Once the mayor was out of my sight, I went back to Tiffany and Kimberly. I told them what happened.
Kimberly: “Okay. But why your address, though?”
Joshua: “I don’t know...”
Kimberly suddenly moved closer to me, together with the chair she sat on. And so, she sat next to me. She laid her arm over me and her head on my shoulder.
Tiffany: “Aww...”
I laid my arm over Kimberly.
Kimberly: “Josh?”
Joshua: “Kim?”
Kimberly: “May I ask you and Tiffany one thing?”
Tiffany: “Huh?”
Joshua: “Sure.”
Kimberly: “Is it true you two get a new sibling?”
Tiffany: “Yup.”
Joshua: “I wouldn’t even dare to lie about that. Besides, even our mom said it.”
Kimberly: “Well, congratulations! Does she know if it’s a boy or a girl?”
Joshua: “Nope, not yet.”
Tiffany: “I want a sister, then I’m not the only one who plays with my dolls!”
Kimberly: “Haha! You don’t know what it’s gonna be so far, Tiffany! But maybe it’s indeed a girl?”
Kimberly’s phone called. She moved her head off my shoulder and released me. She accepted her call when she was a bit further away from us.
Kimberly: “Hello? Oh hey, dad.”
It was her father who called. He apparently was a bit concerned.
Kimberly: “Oh yeah... I forgot I had to be back at 12:30 PM... Do I have to come home now? Joshua, his sister and I were just discussing a plan for a Christmas event.”
I said something to Tiffany.
Joshua: “Bummer, she has to go...”
Tiffany: “Hmm... You sure like her, right?”
Joshua: “Yeah... And she likes me a lot, so... Jackpot!”
Kimberly was still calling her father. She told him about the event with some details.
Kimberly: “I understand... I’ll come right away...”
She ended her call and went up to us.
Kimberly: “I have to quit with helping you with the event.”
Joshua: “What?! Why?!”
Kimberly: “My dad doesn’t approve the idea of helping with giving out money... Sorry.”
Joshua: “Oh... I understand...”
Kimberly went closer to me and hugged me tight. And I hugged her as well.
Kimberly: “I’m gonna miss you...”
Joshua: “I’m going to miss you too... But we can contact on our phones, right?”
Kimberly: “Yeah... And we can chat on the internet.”
We released each other and held each other’s hands.
Joshua: “Well, I am forbidden to use my PC for 3 days.”
Kimberly: “Oh... Well, then we’ll meet again tomorrow. I’ll try to convince my dad to let me join anyway.”
Joshua: “Alright.”
We were staring at each other. Tiffany went off her chair, as we all finished our hot chocolate milk. She laughed a bit.
Tiffany: “When comes the kiss?”
Joshua: “Tiffany!!”
Tiffany: “Sorry... But in movies, they like each other so much... Like you two do...”
We (Kimberly and I) were still staring at each other. We gave each other another hug and released each other after that. Then Kimberly and I said goodbye to each other and she went home. Meanwhile, Tiffany and I were going home too. On our way, we were discussing a few topics. Tiffany kicked against every rock and stick she saw.
Joshua: “Tiffany...”
Tiffany: “Yeah?”
Joshua: “Why did you say that?”
Tiffany: “Say what?”
Joshua: “You said “when comes the kiss” to us... Why?”
Tiffany: “Well, I’m happy for you to see you two be so... happy.”
Joshua: “Eh.. It’s nothing really special between us, y’know.”
Tiffany: “Why’s that?”
Ow... Tiffany asked me a question of which I needed to answer correctly while avoiding any questions or inappropriate references. Here I go, then...
