Somebody explain to me the popularity of Game of Thrones. I've never seen any part of the show but I love the music. I also owned the first book but never read it. Walmart had an incredible sale for the show so I bought the complete first season (luckily) and i plan on trying to get into it.


What is it like? Is it really all that great?

It's definitely in my top 3 of shows that are still airing for a few different reasons.

First, it's a show where no character is safe from death, or anything really. So many shows stick with the concept of "the main character, if not cast, will never die or meet a challenge that will be their downfall", and this show is the complete opposite of that.

Second, the cast and character development is phenomenal. The series has a HUGE cast of main characters it follows, and their development as things progress is just an amazing experience to watch unfold. The overall story is pretty darn good too, while generally keeping upcoming events completely unexpected.

Third, plenty of violence and nudity. Now, these things don't add anything on their own, but they are done very well. The nudity is generally done just to depict the realism of what's happening (and is usually in good taste / not very often), and the violence or fight scenes are extremely well scripted. It's not uncommon for a battle to play out with literally hundreds if not thousands of people on the battlefield, let alone the intense One on One fights between the Heroes / Villains that are the more important characters.

Though it is very heavily story-driven, so it's not like one huge bloodbath the whole time lol. Just go into it with an open mind, and you'll probably enjoy it. Things with as much hype as this has are generally so well received for good reason

Mynamescox44 : lol now I wish that I can buy the other seasons too, especially for the huge discount. If I could get just $20 more I could get seasons two and three but I'd need to get it by tomorrow or else they go back to being like $30 each.

zanderlex : It is definitely worth the buy. Even so, HBO is where you can watch Season 1-6 whenever you want. I do recommend that you try to watch it before season 7 comes out though. Its about to get even better.

So you actually have plenty of time to watch it.

Game of Thrones is so popular because it's excellent writing, both the books and the tv show, and it's simply impossible not to believe it's a real thing. You can flash your mind to Westeros and you believe that it's all really happening. Instead of cookie-cutter happy endings and all's well that ends well, everyone and anyone can die or get killed at any time. The bad guys often win more than the good guys, and there are multiple plot lines running that intermix with each other as the story progresses.

It's a 'tour de force' in that the broad spectrum of stories is fun to follow. I prefer the books to the show but there are defined bad guys and good guys and the good guys, the ones you root for, are often set against each other so you're not sure who to root for when. You find your emotions being played and you aren't sure which way is up.

It's fun. Read the books, then watch the show, and sit back and enjoy. It's a commitment.

I have to agree with them, even though I've only watched like part of Season One myself.

And, of course, GoT does also have a few memes as well. Anyway, I hope you GoT the fever.

Super disappointed to hear that GoT only has like 6 episodes this season instead of the usual 10. Not to mention this season doesn't start until mid-July instead of usually the end of April. 

Anybody else hyped for the next season though? I look forward toward to it all year long, and am getting somewhat impatient at this point XD
