First of all, one of the keywords is 'Spinoff' because a YouTuber already did this with his viewers. You might know him. Or not. *ahem* I decided to bring it here as a forum game! I've looked everywhere to check whether this existed or not. It didn't exist. So here we go:

To anyone whose main language is NOT English: Here you can share an appropriate phrase that fits in the rules with us and we need to guess what it is, even though someone from your country is here and can guess it right away. Let me know if this is a good idea, by the way. Anyway, once people guessed it, another person from a different language may throw in their phrase. Maybe we can learn something from each other. Oh, and you may not tell which language it is yet, unless everyone knows where you're from, that is.

To anyone whose language indeed is English: You may join as well to test others on their English. Of course it's more fun to guess weird phrases but English is welcome too. Please do make it as hard as possible, though.

Oh and by the way, you may not cheat by looking on Google Translate or translate it via Google Chrome.

Should i start? Yes? No? Yes? Okay. Here i go:

"Als de zon schijnt, fluiten de vogels."

What did i wrote between the "s? Hmm...

NOTE: I don't remember whether this was allowed or not. If it's not allowed, then Eirinn, m0ssb3rg and Yuna, go ahead and close this if this is against rules.

Well, this seems interesting.

Hmmm, I'm going to guess it's... Dutch... hope I'm doing this right

Next Phrase: "Gleðileg jól og farsælt komandi ár!"

Goku490 :
skrt-lord :

I I could be wrong, but I think the intended idea for this game was to guess what the translation of the phrase is instead of just the language.

MarioLucarioFan64 : Could you verify that? Also, I have a question regarding what languages we're permitted to use: are we to only use natural languages as opposed to constructed languages?

Natural languages are those that naturally evolve and develop over time and have whole nations of people who speak them natively, where a constructed language, or "Con-Lang" for short, is one that is intentionally constructed by people with a purpose in mind, but may not have many speakers. Examples of constructed languages would be lojban, Esperanto and, believe it or not, Klingon, Esperanto being the most successful of the three mentioned. Excluding languages like lojban or Klingon would be understandable because they have few speakers and it would make the game difficult, but Esperanto actually has quite a following. Then there's the question of dead languages such as Gaulish, Old English or Akkadian.

Also, this is primarily an English speaking board, but I don't really have any problems with this game.

Eirinn : What's your opinion?

m0ssb3rg935 : I don't have a problem with it either. In fact I started to reply to it right after he posted it but I haven't the foggiest what he said. Lol

That said, I would encourage adding a few rules personally, such as giving a hint about the general idea expressed in the comment like "This is a type of food" or "this is a pleasantry". The concept is an interesting one but guessing a phrase in a language one doesn't know is almost impossible unless some of it's words are similar to their own. For example I could take a guess at a Spanish phrase, but Chinese or Afrikaans would leave me clueless. You could say "Have a nice day" in one of those and I would probably guess something like "my dog has a cold" Idk.

So yeah, I think this needs a little more rule structure to really work well, but it's your call MLF. I'm fine with it being here.

By the way, your phrase wasn't "My dog has a cold" by any chance, was it?
