I wish they could settle somewhere in the middle as far as animal rights go. I would reccomend a book called food pets die for. What you're feeding your pet may range from feces to dead cat/dog parts.

yeah.... they do....

but I still don't think people are punished harshly enough for harming animals....

there was a guy that threw a cat out a window.... and didn't get much more than a slap on the wrist a 3 dozen women outside his apartment screaming mean things at him ....

it just doesn't seem right

Three kids in my town, they threw a dog out the car window of a moving car and got jail time for 9 months! They were only high schoolers too, and the dog didn't even die, he was fine after some treatment

see, that makes more sense....

I think if you can beat up a small animal.... dog/cat whatever... that you also have the capacity to do it to other people and that you need serious help....

I've heard that animal abuse is an early warning sign of significantly worse violence in the future....

I personally see hunting as a different thing....

hunting isn't done in anger....

kicking a cat across a room is done in anger...

hunting is a sport, and also is done as a way to get food....

there is a significant difference

I saw a show on AnimalPlanet yesterday about a family who adopted a cat who was dragged on a bike and then set on fire. Its pretty hard to comprehend what kind of a person you would have to be to do something like that.

Its not hard at all to see that animal violence is an early sign of anger/violence problems. Anyone who would purposely torture a harmless animal definitely has something wrong.

I scold my cats any time they do somethin bad, it's my technique of teaching them what not to do, but I could never scold them in a way that'd cause them severe pain...I just couldn't do it to any animal unless the animal was attacking me and/or putting my life or someone elses life in danger, THAN I'd be willing to kill the animal.

Animal Rights activists can be pretty damn violent people!
I remember hearing about these animal rights activist who went into this one fast food restaurant, and killed everyone in there because they were eating meat.

Also, I think Hitler was an animals rights activist, or was close to it.

I buy any snacks that are cheap and tasty...if their cheap and tasty, than I'd buy them lol. Hell, I buy Rugrat gummy candys sometimes, I dont play or look at them, I just eat them cause they taste good (and rarely do I ever buy them, and usually it's my mom who buys them for my siblings, and I just come along and grab some for myself).

LOL yea. I know what david is talking about with the animal right activists. The example I always use is "they care more about baby seals than they do about baby humans" They can be pretty crazy.

ABout the whole cruelty issue, just thing about Hitting and abusing a child, or spanking them because the lied to you, punishing them not because your mad at them but because you love them.

Ok, they are going way to far on this. I'm all for animal right, but this is way out there. Not to mentione if they banned this, they would have to get upset about animal crackers and all animals shaped food. Not to mention gingerbread men, I mean wouldn't that promote that it's ok to eat humans?*sarcastic* Anyways, as I said, this is way too much.

Not terribly surprising, if you consider what's in a lot of so-called "skin care" products. I know that's WAY off topic, but seriously...lots of soaps and stuff that we use in the shower every day have mineral oil in it...which is basically just refined crude oil. The stuff jams up your pores so that the good stuff in the products (like aloe vera and stuff like that) can't get in.

And worse yet: makeup! Most makeup has animal by-products from rendering plants...basically, roadkill and stuff like that. They melt down and boil the dead animals and the fatty substance that floats up gets skimmed off the top and put in makeup. (The "dead cat/dog parts" that you mentioned is what reminded me of this.) Let's see, what's a specific example...Ah, here's one. Most mascara has bat poop in it! And no, I'm not kidding. (I bet the girls here are probably surprised that I can even SPELL mascara.)

Don't have my info with me right now, John, but I'll get back to you on it soon. Many cosmetic companies change the name of the "Mineral Oil" ingredient on their boxes so that it's not noticeable...but there are about 40 different names for mineral oil, one of the most common being petrolatum.

If you want pictures of rendering plants and people dropping that crap into makeup, I can't help you there. One suggestion would be to do a Google search on each ingredient in certain makeup and cosmetic stuff, and find out what that weird super-long ingredient really is. (By the way, mineral oil is in most shampoos and soaps too...which hopefully would apply to you!)

Regarding the mascara, most girls will tell you that it irritates their eyes during the day while they wear it. That's because of the crap in it (no pun intended).

My mom is a district manager (about to be area manager) for Arbonne International, a company that does makeup and stuff like that with natural ingredients...all their stuff is botanically based. It's more expensive to do it that way (which is why other companies use cheaper methods like rendering plants) but it's also higher-quality stuff. Nearly all (like, at least 95%) of the people who give Arbonne's stuff a whirl notice a great difference in how their skin feels within a couple weeks. And out of the people who try it, at least 80% get into using it. VERY good stuff. (Donald Trump is one of our customers, if that tells you anything. )

But yeah, if you want more specific info, like exactly what names get substituted for mineral oil and stuff like that, I can get that list to you sometime. For now, check out http://www.arbonne.com for other basic information.
